As per the manual:
The Iris Motion Sensor has 120◦ coverage. For best results when mounting the motion sensor:
• Below 5 feet, battery door should face down.
• Above 5 feet, battery door should face up

I don't see anything in the manual that says you should turn your house upside down. Instead you should turn the sensor upside down.

Yup. And the wedge can be taken out and the stair frame/baluster returned to as it was with minimal effort.
