How so?
All I want to achieve with this color lighting project is making the wife happy. She wants to be able to set (make me set) the color she wants and turn them off and on (and of course change that color with the seasons 
). I have no intention of having HE control the lights other than setting the color. The setup works and the wife is happy

Unless there is major downside, I don't see the harm.
You could just pick up some Sylvania 2-button dimmers on Amazon. They cover the switch and give the added functionality of controlling the lights while keeping your wiring intact.
Because you have to first turn on the switch, then you can control the lights. But until you do that, the bulbs won't work.
