Schlage FE599 inclusion problems

Greetings,
Working on Wink to HE migration and I was able to pair all my 66 devices. The last one, the FE599 just don't include.
I did several factory reset and several exclusion and inclusion.
Also had the hub very close to the lock, even hanging from the lock.
It is able to find the lock and hangs on initializing. There is a driver in the HE for this lock.
Spent 5 hours trying and couldnt get it working. It was perfect fine on Wink (I also excluded from wink).
Running the latest firmware 2.2.4.153 . Any suggestion??

Thanks. Doug

Looks like this post was somehow overlooked by everyone.

  • Be sure you have fresh or at least newer batteries in the lock.
  • There is a newer hub update than what you have (a couple actually). I would do that before going too far.
  • Have you successfully paired any other Z-wave devices?
  • Does it show anything in the logs (open in a new tab or window) while attempting to include or exclude?
  • Are there any messages or indicators on the Device Discovery page when trying to include or exclude?
  • Are we talking about a C7 hub?
  • What does the Zwave settings page look like? Can you give us a screenshot of that page?

And finally, welcome to Hubitat, I am sure we can get you up and running pretty quickly.

Hi, there...Just saw your reply to Doug's post. I have the same exact problem with my FE599, where the device is found by the HE C7 but it is stuck in the "initialize" state.
I did reset the lock, repeated the exclusion and inclusion steps countless times. Always same result.
I am successful in excluding the device each try.
Then again, it is suck initializing after inclusion,.

In the setting->z wave details list of devices I see the lock. There is no in/out data. I tried repair and refresh several times, no change.

I just noticed the signal of the lock (I know it from its device ID which is 12 in my case) is -9db, while some of the other devices are at +12dB. So my next try is going to be bring the lock close to the hub. Let's see if that makes a difference. (I already put in new batteries)

Any ideas/suggestions will be appreciated.

Gunnar

Also, be patient. For some reason the initial pairing process on the FE599 is very, very slow! If it looks like it was successful, let it sit for at least 5 minutes before you decide it didn't pair correctly.

Schlage uses a low power mode "whisper mode" to exchange key data to avoid a potential man-in-the-middle theft of the credentials.

I talked to Hubitat support and I was told that the FE599 is not compatible with Hubitat. Looks like the FE599 does NOT allow firmware updates. I also spent 4 days and tried everything I could possibly do and always get stuck in the initializing process. Unfortunately we will need to get another lock if we looking to integrate... it is a bummer because I have it since 2015, worked perfectly with Wink and is a great lock.... :frowning:

Hubitat has taken a load of flack because some Schlage locks seem to be even flakier on Hubitat than they were on other platforms. As a result, they de-listed some of the Schlage locks from the supported devices list. I also have an old FE-599 that I moved over from SmartThings. I was able to pair it (with the hub a few feet away on the longest drop cable I could find) and it has worked fairly well for a couple of years. I would like to replace it, mostly because, as you noted, you can't get firmware upgrades for it and it is getting really old. I keep looking for a lever handle lock like it but there doesn't seem to be much out there - mostly dead bolts. The Yale Lever lock apparently won't fit if you have a dead bolt installed above it, which I do. I really don't want to have to fill that hole, move the dead bolt and repaint the door . . .

I should add - I have the FE599 working on one of my C-4 hubs. I have not moved it to the C-7. Since the C-7 has the new Z-Wave chip, things could be different with that hub. My plan is to leave it on the C-4 and Mesh it until I can find a suitable replacement.
