Schlage BE469 Setup

I currently am using Wink with my Schlage BE469 door lock. I should have moved a long time ago but now is the time I bought my Hubitat device and hooked it up. It is about 15-20 feet from my front door with a wall in between. I have read a number of posts about repeaters and am not sure if I will need one. This is a very small condo, 900 square feet, and the HE and lock are pretty close. I guess I can try it first and see if it works but wanted to see if there was anyone else that has a similar setup?

I understand many have had to bring the HE next to the lock to pair. That shouldn't be too hard, just need to get a long ethernet cable. am I correct that the HE only works connected to ethernet?

Wink has been very easy to use, program codes, etc but is not a good company, especially to their customers. I have heard so many good things about HE and am here for good. Thanks.

Yes and no. The hub will function just fine not connected to ethernet (aside from clock drift, which is a separate issue). However in your case you actually need to get to the UI, which does require network connectivity.

Locks can be tricky. I think I would be tempted to make sure your mesh is really solid and do a search for schlage locks to see what issues others have encountered.

Take a look at these two very helpful articles...

When you do this, reset the lock to factory defaults. Pair the lock within 3 fee of the hub. Put hub and/or lock back into their final resting place. If at any time you have a failed pairing with the lock (or any z-wave device for that matter) STOP what you are doing, go to the z-wave details page and remove any ghosts that may have been created. (they will have nothing in their route column) Reset the device and try again.

I know mesh has to do with the network but what would that involve for me. the only automation I have is the lock. I have my modem and wifi and that is all at this time. Is there something else that I need? Thanks.

If the lock is the only zwave device you have or intend to have, and it works without any repeaters, then no... you arent likely to need to worry about it. In a small apartment it's probably not as big a deal. But if this is the first device and you plan to add more, you should probably take a look.

It's been a few years ago, but what I did, carefully take the lock mechanism (in my case I was just installing) to the room the Hub was in and paired it there. The lock is on batteries so, again if you are careful, you can take it to the Hub. I did 3 locks that way. It may take awhile once you install in door to "settle down" in HE but mine have been fine. I tested using the lock (unmounted) a few times before using the Hub so as to have my "method" down.

You can knock out the hinge pins for the door and take the door to the Hub.

@jimlenz give it a try as is. I just bought my hub and setup all my devices including a Schlage BE469 in mid December without any issues. No need to do anything special unless you have problems.
