S2 Authenticated devices [C7]

@bcopeland

I just had an opportunity to do an actual replace (an older Zooz Multisiren for a newer version).

When I did the replace, I got a pop-up asking about security levels. When I un-checked the boxes, they automatically "re-checked" themselves about a half-second later. IOW, I could not uncheck those boxes during the re-pairing and, as such, it re-paired with full S2 security.

Thoughts? Looking for the easiest way to re-pair several S2 devices to try getting them using non-encrypted mode.

Thanks!

Why? S2 is what we should be using it's only S0 that can be problematic.

I'm having hellacious problems with my C-7 hub and network.

When I send out Z-Wave commands (On/Off/Dim/etc), 10-20% of the devices (not always the same ones) don't respond. The status of devices is often not reflected properly back to the hub, etc.

When I need to ensure something is done, I have to do global refreshes before actions, take the actions, refresh again, do the action again. Only then is it likely (but not guaranteed) that most/all the devices will end up with the right status.

There have been some comments that indicate S2 encryption has notable, additional overhead. To help remove that as a possible cause of these issues, I was going to try getting most of my S2 devices to pair as "unencrypted" (someone jacking with my lights would be more annoying than critical--door locks, garage doors will stay encrypted).

Can you clarify how you are sending these bulk commands?

I think your likely chasing a red herring, from the sounds of it your issues are not going to be fixed with that. I think you need to look for something else, how many powered devices to you have vs none? How close are they? Send a snip of you z-wave details page, to see if we can spot anything.

Are these zwave non plus devices?

As I said, they are S2

Check if there are any devices with nothing in the clusters column.

In some cases, using a group. I had the same issues optimized and not.

In other cases, sending them 5 or so at a time in a dim/on/off type of command.

Nope. All looks good there.

I have a handful of door contact sensors, locks, etc, but a houseful of line powered ZW+ dimmers and switches.

My house isn't very large. Nothing could be over ~40 feet from the hub. I have issues with devices much closer than that.

Busy zwave network could cause it but thats usually a failed pair which you said you don't have or power reporting spamming.

Note: I believe the only non plus things I have are 5 door locks.

I mentioned non plus because they don't report status updates.

Yep. That's exactly why I have a box of about 20-30 non-plus switches in the basement on my junk table. :slightly_smiling_face:

I think S0 is more chatty than S2 also.

Looks like I have 8 S0 devices (not sure why my loft multi-sensor is S0--I thought it was S2).

19 "none"

1 "S2 Access Control" (Door lock) plus, of course, the hub itself.

35 "S2 Authenticated"

It may be S2 and just joined as S0. You'll need to rejoin it to get it to connect as S2 since that is done during the pairing process.

Have you checked your hub stats? There may be a clue there...

Enable stats and let them run for a few minutes then pull up the first link to view the stats. Disable them when you're done.

You can use these links by replacing the app id or device id to take you to the offending app.
