I have tried several centralized media playback solutions. I was a Squeezebox user many years ago prior to the Logitech acquisition. I used Logitech Media Server for some time. I've experimented with NAS-based solutions. You name it!
Recently I migrated everything over to Roon. I cannot say enough good things!
If you haven't tried Roon (and I see only one mention of it in the entire forum) please do as it is excellent.
There's a ton of resources from Roon for playback control, end point mappings, album art, etc. I could see many levels of integration possible, but perhaps as a starting point there could be a simple way to control playback on a per endpoint/output basis and display metadata via a dashboard tile or forward along to other connected devices (IFTTT?)!
Sounds like something a professional integrator would provide with a high end system. It's an interesting platform. Tidal is a risky first partner imop.
If it were Spotify or Apple Music I'd be more interested. I used to keep a library of files but I've just lost the new or interest. The hardware integration list seems pretty elite as well. A fee on top of a music subscription fee adds to the cost.
Maybe more users here are in the high end circle, but most are just DIYing because that's what we can afford.
I've been very disappointed thus far in my ability to manage multiple rooms of sonos players with Hubitat (or HomeKit/Hoobs). Have had Roon on the back of my mind for several years.
Not much here on it, did you ever get it working well with Hubitat?
I haven’t and I’ve been distracted by loads of other HA projects. What I intend to do is try to use NodeRed to expose some better controls for Roon to Hubitat. But that’s just my initial re-think on the matter.
