I'm trying very hard to like RL, but having issues still. I'm more than willing to admit it might be user error. (Sorry for the length of this.) The issue is with transitions. In Groups and Scenes, I had two scene transitions that were imported into RL:
Kitchen lights from bright white to warm white;
TV Backlight from warm white to a redder hue.
Bot of these transitions were triggered in the RM rule that runs when Mode becomes Evening. I changed that rule to use the RL activators as switches. The kitchen lights do not transition at all. The backlight changes immediately without transition. I can't fall back to Groups and Scenes because the scene transitions no long show up in RM. There's no way to select them.
I set up a simple RL transition to do some testing. Screen grabs below of how it's set up. It changes "Reading Lamp" from a warm white to a green hue. If I try to use the activator device as a switch on the dashboard, it does not appear to trigger the transition. If the light is off, it will come on to the original warm white state. But the transition never occurs whether the light was on or off to begin with. If I use the "Activate" button in the RL app, then the light comes on and the transition happens.
Perhaps if I can get this transition working I can figure out how to fix the other two. I'm sort of afraid to touch them right now. Thanks for any help.
And this is the log from clicking the activate button in the RL app. The transition works, here. The light was off, and it turned on to the starting state and transitioned to the end state as expected. (I only did a screen shot of part of the log.)
Oh thank goodness! I honestly thought I was going nuts.
BTW @bravenel, could you also possibly allow selecting scene transitions in RM 5.1? I'd like to be able to fall back if necessary. (I know it was stupid of me not to make a copy of those rules.)
@bravenel Actually, that worked to get the regular scenes into the list, but the transition scenes still don't show up. All of them threw the above error when I hit Done. I tried creating new transition scenes, and those also threw the above error and do not show up in the list in RM.
Actually what happened is that yesterday we were updating document links in most of the apps, and as I committed Groups and Scenes with its new document link, I noticed a few other lines of code had been changed, ones that have to do with this issue. I tested this with Scene-1.2 and all was good. But I didn't test with Scene Transition, where a small update had not been done. My bad.
(I once brought a company to its knees for a week because I missed that the name of a file I was using was one letter different from the one I should have been using. Oops.)
My evening routine worked as expected today. The mode changed from Home to Evening. The kitchen faded slowly from bright white to warm white. The TV backlight changed slowly to a warmer hue. And the side lamp in the family room came on and slowly faded up to 100%. All of this was via the new Mode Manager and RL transitions triggered with their activation devices from RM 5.1.
I also set up a copy of the rule to use the old scene transitions, and I was able to get this set up without it throwing any errors. But I have that on pause since the RL/RM combo is working correctly.
