For quite some time now Iāve been unable to create a new rule - RM just hangs on the initial āName This ruleā screen. Iāve just avoided creating new rules hoping the bug would be fixed w/ new releases but no such luck.
Iāve rebooted hubitat, cleared browser cache. Maybe someone can provide some help here - Iām running the latest version 2.2.7.126.
Did you use any "beta" features in Rule Machine like clone, export, or import? Just trying to think of something that may have caused this in the first place. If none of that helps, restoring from a last known-good backup (which these features caution you to make) is probably the only way. I would try an entirely different browser first just to be sure (though clearing the cache should be nearly as good).
It just hangs when you hit āDoneā on the very first screen where you āName this ruleā. This is before I have any opportunity to use any of the beta features.
Iāve tried Chrome and Safari browsers. Unfortunately, this really renders my Hubitat useless. Iāve been a very happy user for a long time but canāt continue this way. Hopefully thereās someway to fix this.
When i create a new rule, after naming the rule I click outside of the 'naming field' and this then opens up the triggers and actions 'boxes'. Have you tried that?
Failing that try contacting Bruce at support. He may know a way of getting out of this loop.
You might want to do a search on "soft reset." Downloading a backup, doing a soft reset, and doing a restore has fixed corrupt database issues for other folks and for me as well. My understanding is that when you do a backup only non corrupted database records are written to the backup, so when you do the soft reset and wipe your database, the only thing that gets restored are good records. I don't know that it would help your issue or not, and if for some reason you couldn't do a restore I think you'd be pretty much screwed. But it might be worth looking. Make sure you download the backup to local storage. And if I seem to be hedging my bets, it's only because I'm not an expert on the advantages and disadvantages of the soft reset method.
These features are found in the parent app, so they should actually be accessible regardless. But that was just a guess on my part anyway.
I should also mention that my suggestion above was based off the assumption that you have rules you want to keep. If not, removing and reinstalling Rule Machine (the parent app) may also help. I'd also look in "Logs" to see if you find any errors there when this problem happens.
My guess is that these are just unexpected app settings and probably not database corruption, but the above can't hurt if you wanted to try that, too! (A soft reset is pretty harmless as long as you don't reset anything else.)
I would suggest you download a backup before doing anything that might result is a database modification.
Also if you have any real long rules you back them up individually.
