I have successfully added an old V1 ring motion sensor that I had laying around I never used from many years ago. It works as it should, except that I can't get it to take a different dwell time or set the pet immunity setting.
I'm somewhat of a noob here to zwave/zigbee stuff, but from what I've figured out the sensor only looks for new data or settings from the hub when it "wakes up" after you open the case. So if I change it to dwell time 1 minute on the hub it will "save" the setting. But as soon as I open the case and the sensor gets the data from the hub the setting will revert back to 3 mins. Same story for the pet immunity.
And FWIW I initially added the sensor before reading the official instructions on the device compatibility list, but I removed/excluded it and re-added it using smart start the second time and no difference in behavior.
I've searched these forums and googled extensively I can't find any posts talking about it changing it besides an official ring article that mentions it is locked to a 3 min dwell time and not adjustable. That of course is when using it with a Ring Alarm system.
So any thoughts, is it actually adjustable? I was going to use this for a silly automation I have planned to help my kids remember to flush the toilet but I think if I can't adjust the dwell time I might need to get a different sensor.
The sensor has been sitting new in box since 2019 when I bought my ring alarm system. Does it need to be added to my alarm temporarily so it gets a firmware update maybe? Anything like that?
