Rheem Econet Thermostat Falls Short - Need suggestions for a new one 2 stage

I've edited my topic to ask for suggestions as my questions about Rheem have been asnwered. But,m here's the original post:

Up until the last few nights, I didn't care about integrating my heating/cooling. Now It's HOT and I'm miserable. The temperature difference between upstairs and the basement is 15 degrees at least. (full basement), so we actually close our vents down here in the summer and opposite in the winter. Most times, I just adjust the air for basement temperature. But, when we go to bed, it's HOT up there. And since we're not always going to bed at the same time, I'd just like mode to trigger a temperature change instead of trying to schedule it. I was thinking node red, but have no idea how to even see if this is a possibility. They have a junky econet app that almost never communicates correctly. I'd love some input on this. I see that the HE integration has been hit and miss. I blame the rheem app and not the developer for this. It's alexa compatible, but only by voice. Can't set a scene for it.

I believe rheem would have broken this integration just like the water heater integration when they switched to mqtt. I think someone will need to rewrite it :frowning:

Looks like I'm going to be looking for a different stat that works with two stage then. I had assumed that was what was going on with it.

There's a bunch of z-wave/zigbee t-stats that work with 2-stage heat, 2-stage cool. Each of them has their quirks. The Honeywell T6 that I have only permits a 3 degree F bias/offset, but outside of that, works well (and supports up to 3H/2C).

I've just updated my topic for suggestions for a stat. I kind've knew this was going to be the solution. Rheem ... My hubs works for them, so yah. Got a new unit for a great price.

@bcopeland's got this Honeywell also.

Let me ask you two questions - how many stages do you need for Heat and Cool? And is it a heat pump + AUX or furnace + A/C?

furnace + AC
I'm know nothing about this unit. Jeff just tells me that it's a two stage.

I always try to avoid products that don't have an official API if I other options exist. For the Rheem water heater, there aren't many competitors. For their thermostats, there are plenty with official APIs!

I'll say I've been very happy with the Ecobee 4 using Ecobee Suite Manager.

I’m a fan of the dumb smart thermostat... Z-wave or zigbee, and no automatic temperature changing. That way I can have it do what I want. The Honeywell, zen, pearl all do this.

I have a Honeywell T6, a Pearl, a Honeywell TH8320Z (older Honeywell with Z-Wave).
As @aayar said they all have their quirks. I like the T6's but I like the Pearl as well.

The Pearl has the ability to limit (via setup options, not programmable) both the max and min for both heating and cooling. My heating is set at (Max = 74 °F, Min = 66 °F).
So no matter what little fingers like to play with the cute digital thingy. Or how I screw up a RM rule the temperature will not go nuclear :slight_smile:

Oh and none of them even knows there is an interent :slight_smile:

UPDATE: Out of curiosity I looked at the specs for my A/C. It is a Trane 16i and is advertised as a 2 stage scroll compressor. Its only 3 ton but fine here in New England. Anyway the thermostat is wired to the system as a single stage would be. Any staging is done at the compressor. Not sure if this is any use to you but I thought it couldn't hurt.
