I have a pantry and I'd like to light some of the shelves with some RGBW strip lights. Or just white as I don't see using color for this at all. Ideally it would be 1 or 2 controllers with a 3' run, a 2' wire extension and another 3' run one more extension and one more 3' run. I'd do this on both sides of the pantry so if possible I'd run a long wire extension between leg 3 and leg 4 on the other side. Otherwise I'd just use a second controller.
Just seeing if anyone has any advise for this application.
I'll take a shot at offering my experiences with under cabinet installs.
My first effort was a wifi strip - it was hard to get it working. Ultimately I did but that was 2 years ago. The colors were no where close and using color temp was really bad.
I switched to RGBW zigbee and things improved mightily. The unit was a Gledepto (sp?) but it used the basic RGBW driver. Worked very well. the stickum they provide would break loose over time. I used it under cabinet and under /around bed frame. In the end I had to put strips of packing tape to keep it in place. The brick that came with it was huge - I swapped it with something I had laying around so it didn't keep falling out the wall.
My 3rd iteration came out the best. I guess I learned. I bought a 5m length of RGBWW. The price was $23 on aliexpress. I was nervous cuz RGB, RGBW and RGBWW are not interchangeable! (BTW - I think that aRGBWW is also called RGB + CCT - at least thats the driver I'm using!).
During install, I did an acohol wipedown first. was surprised how much dirty came off. after it dried, I started putting it in. At the corners you 'roll it' over ie; bend it back on itself then start the next direction. I can take a closeup if it would help.
I went round and round each of the cabinets, then at the stove, I ran up into the hood. I used black gorilla tape and trimmed it from 1" to 3/4". this hides the leds and you really don't notice it. Inside the hood it didn't stick at all. Again, strips of transparent box tape was used to hold it into place. I continued on until I got to the last cabinet. The best part - there are 'trim' marks on the LED Strip where you can simply cut it with scissors! On the other side of the sink, I installed a second unit. Since it's only one cabinet, it was just over 1M so I bought a 3M spool and again, trimmed it. I replaced the PS/brick with a smaller unit I had. Its a bit ugly, that black power wire going up the wall - so I hid it inside a 1/2" wiremold that matched the tiles. it looks really good and sticks great.
For the SW I'm using GLEDOPTO ZigBee RGB+CCT Controller GL-C-008 Driver. At one point I was using the RGBW generic - and that worked perfectly well too - but the brightness of CT was strange.
The whole thing cost me 56 dollars! 2 LED strips (a 5m and a 3M and I threw away about 2M) including the 1/2" cable guide
It took 3 weeks to get it all here.
I group the devices, and have had zero problems. Alexa gets colors correct - including teal and warm white. White doesn't work with Alexa, you have to say 'bright, cool, warm' white. I love the intensity of the RGBWW vs the RGB simulated white. wow. huge, worthwhile difference!
