Try updating the firmware. You can often find a Lightify hub with a white bulb on Amazon for under $10.

The manufacturer of all the Sylvania Smart+ bulbs is LedVance. The older ones were Lightify made by Osram that used the problematic zigbee modules.
I agree that updating the firmware made a big difference in mine, but it might be a mesh issue, as I have never had trouble with them dropping off. They still ship with the original firmware btw.
Ken - did a quick search and I don't see how to update the firmware outside a ST hub?
@greg.cole You can get a Lightify gateway for $10 and just use it for updates.
