I am looking for a dimmer to control ELV in Zwave. Inovelli red series is out of stock. Any recommendations? Thank you
@CuriousB posted this in the lounge this week, if a Zen 77 would work with ELV.
Edit: Maybe not, according to Google
" The compatibility of the Zooz ZEN77 with Electronic Low Voltage (ELV/trailing-edge) loads depends on the hardware version:
- Ver. 1.0 & 2.0 (Discontinued): These versions used MOSFET technology, which is compatible with trailing-edge/ELV dimming.
- Ver. 3.0 & 800 Series (Current): These updated versions switched to TRIAC (leading-edge) technology. While they work with many LED bulbs, they are not designed for true ELV loads and may cause issues with bulbs that strictly require trailing-edge/reverse-phase drivers"
yes, I feel it was shortsighted of Zooz to move away from MOSFET switching. It was surely a cost saving move based on the presumption that LED bulb vendors needed to force compatibility with triac switching due to large installed base.
Innovelli is MOSFET and via config you can be either leading or trailing edge. Zooz could have been that way.
I have over 20 ZEN77s installed and if you use LED bulbs suited for them they work just fine. They have a nice max brightness feature that allow you to throttle back from 100% which is where I was seeing flickering. I set all my ZEN77s for max of 95%.
Thanks for the insight! It’s a shame Zooz moved away from MOSFET on the newer 800 series.
Since Inovelli is still hard to find, I’ve decided to use an MCO Home MH220D as a workaround. I’m controlling it via Z-Wave from a ZEN72 for now. It’s not the most elegant long-term setup, but it solved the ELV compatibility issue while I wait for a more integrated MOSFET dimmer to become available. Appreciate the help!
