[Resolved] Migration from C8 to C8 Pro

I tried to migrate from my C8 to a new C8 Pro, but the migration failed.

I then tried the migration without ZWave and Zigbee, and that was successful. However, I really wanted to migrate the ZWave and Zigbee. I suspected that it was because the firmware was different between the two, so I updated the firmware and tried to do a "Full Reset".

Now when I try to do a Full Reset, it gives me a message saying "Full reset cannot be performed while hub has active subscriptions".

I went to my.hubitat.com and de-registered the new hub, but I'm still getting the same error.

I basically just want to start over to migrate the ZWave and Zigbee devices.

You don't need to do a full reset to retry the migration. You could reset the Zigbee and Z-Wave radios if you think there's a chance anything came over, otherwise any kind of restore, including a migration, is effectively going to do a soft reset beforehand, so you'd be starting from blank anyway.

You can try a soft reset (and any radio resets, though these will be wiped before a migration including these, too) yourself if you wanted to start somewhere close to a new hub instead of retrying the migration from Settings on your existing hub if you wanted:

The problem is that it doesn’t allow me to do a Full Reset because it says that the hub has active subscriptions.

Right, that is why I did not suggest it. A soft reset or any of the above is different. Importantly, as I mentioned:

Right, wrong or otherwise, here's what I ended up doing: I transferred the subscriptions for the hub I was migrating from to a hub that I have for another property. I was then successful in performing a "full reset" of the hub I was migrating to. Afterward, I transferred the subscription back again.

Thanks for your suggestions.

A Full Reset is essentially just a "macro" — it runs through three steps in sequence. These steps are rarely needed and are only useful if you plan to give your hub away. (Note: hub registration has no effect on performance; it simply grants the hub access to Hubitat’s cloud services.)

Here’s what a Full Reset does:

  • De-registers the hub – This can also be done at my.hubitat.com, though it’s generally not recommended.

  • Performs a Soft Reset – This can also be initiated from the Diagnostic Tool, but usually isn’t necessary.

  • Resets Z-Wave/Zigbee radios – This can be done from the Diagnostic Tool as well, though restoring from a backup would also reset the radios.

:warning: Tip for migrations: When a migration fails (which can happen), we recommend creating a new backup and trying the migration again. We’ve often seen migrations succeed on the second attempt after an initial failure.
