Repeater for Hue

I don’t have the technical details, but the source is one I trust. I’ll get confirmation.

I appreciate that. I don't mind being proven wrong and would actually break out my Hue bridge (with some modifications to my setup) again if true. One of my biggest complaints with Hue was the lack of repeaters for long distance (>100' through walls) lighting.

Well, they do have an outlet now, so if it turns out the info isn’t accurate, then at least there’s an option.

True and I hope that it repeats, but knowing Philips, they'll probably drop the ball. LOL I honestly love their products, but the company makes some of the oddest decisions about those products.

Not as odd as IKEA. They still hold the title.

RIGHT?! +1,000,000 on that one.

Its anecdotal evidence as it turns out. He added them and Hue treated them as their own. Then bulbs that wouldn't work in the other room, suddenly started working. Sounds like the Innr plugs and the Trådfri repeater are doing the job, despite hard facts to backup the claims.

This info on Amazon says they repeat and they are Zigbee 3.0. Doesn't say specifically that they repeat for Hue, but the Hue Bridge is also Zigbee 3.0 now. That's one heck of a good price too!

I appreciate the legwork! Eh, anecdotal evidence is still evidence. Personally, I would like to see the ZA actually put into the spec docs, but I'll also take personal experience over nothing.

I've just done a hue bridge update and now my 3a zigbee switch (connected to an rgb strip) connects but then goes uncontactable. Removed it and re-added it but always goes uncontactable. I have 4 hue bulbs within 3m of the switch but they are the older ambience bulbs. Is it worth trying to add an ikea repeater to the hue hub to see if that helps?

Just an FYI but you really don't want to use xxx to replace numbers now because you created a porn link lol.

I have my Hue bridge at the top floor of my house. There's a light in the backyard at the ground level that I cannot pair with the HUE bridge probably because it cant reach it, so I'm trying to find a zigbee repeater to extend the range. Above this light, there's a pair of GE bulbs on the deck outside that I have on the HUE bridge so i get they'll repeat but not on initial pairing, right? NOt sure how I can solve this short of unplugging the hue, bringing it closer, connecting, then putting it back which I'd rather not do. For clarity, the HUE has all the crappy bulbs I bought before I understood how all this meshing works, it's paired to the HE which controls the world.

A GE Link bulb, assuming that's what you mean, should repeat. I'm not aware of any Hue-compatible bulbs that don't, though I'm not sure anyone has ever verifier this about all of them. In any case, you can't specifically control Zigbee routes, but hopefully this wouldn't work for you--it's definitely in line with the theory.

Also, I'm not sure if they were available yet at the time when I wrote the above, but Hue has smart pligs now that probably also repeat. The Ikea Trådfri outlets are also compatible if they have new enough firmware, though I'm not sure I'd recommend them for extra range because they seem to be pretty weak repeaters. Just a couple more options if you'd rather have a plug than a bulb.

Sorry I typed that too fast and maybe wasn't clear. I have a CREE bulb on the ground level (outside) i'm trying to connect to my HUE bridge. I cannot pair it. I have 2 GE Bulbs also outside right above on the deck that I've already paired with the HUE. So it seems to me, that the CREE isn't making the connection to the HUE bridge which is on the 3rd floor. Would existing lights already paired with the HUE be involved with pairing with the HUE, i wouldn't think so, that's what i'm asking.

Ah, I understand the question now. They should--Zigbee devices should be able to pair through the mesh, and I assume the Cree bulbs repeat (they do on Hubitat--not well, but they're fine on ZLL networks like Hue, in my experience). Can't say why the one farther away wouldn't be working, though. You could always try pairing it closer (easy with light bulbs) and see if it works when moved to its actual location, possibly giving it 30 minutes or so afterwards to reevaluate routes.

That's what I will do instead of moving the hub, CREE bulbs are such a pain. I have 4 on HUE right now and about 14 GE Bulbs just to keep them off my HE mesh. It's worked out great. I really just want to STOP using CREE bulbs but i have quite a few and dont want to throw the $ out the window. Thanks for your good advice on this!
