I've been searching this forum for an answer to my question about installing C8 hubs in my 2 homes. I have a C8 installed in my summer home and it is working great. I'm now at my winter home which is obviously on a different subnet and have just purchased a second C8. I have a Remote Admin subscription. Can someone point me to some documentation for the simplest way/best practices to install this second hub? Can I just install it by adding another Hub or do I need to get into the complexities of HubConnect?
IF you don't mind them being entirely independent, then you don't need to do anything "special". Just like my hubs work for me and your original works for you, with no need to connect them, ever, you can run two or more houses fully independently.
Just register it to the same account so it will share the remote admin subscription.
Other than sharing the same registration account they can both operate totally independent of each other, as @csteele said.
If you WANT to shared devices between them, then there are some options, but you don't NEED to.
This should allow you to connect to either hub remotely as you see fit from a web browser or the Hubitat mobile app (the intended purpose of Remote Admin).
There isnβt much else to consider unless you want the hubs to be able to communicate directly with each other? e.g. to share devices between the two for automations or dashboards?
Thank you very much for the quick answers. That is what I was thinking after reading through the posts but I wanted to confirm. I will set them up as separate hubs using the same account.
I've added a second C-8 onto my existing Hubitat account and added 2 devices as a test but have run into a problem that I can't seem to find a solution to. On my second hub, everything seems to work except I can't send a notification to my cellphone from the second hub. I have read through a lot of forum threads and have tried things like adding a virtual device for my cellphone but when I look at the logs, I see that a notification has been sent to the cellphone virtual device but it never shows up on my phone. I've also seen references to the Pushover service but would prefer to use a native solution. How can I get the notifications to show up on my cellphone?
You should really examine this option a bit more. You set up an account with them, pay a once-in-a-lifetime fee of $5 and you can use that pathway to get notifications to your phone from not just one Hubitat hub. I have 5 hubs and a couple Node-Red instances that all send notifications via the one Pushover account.
Problem solved, all I needed to do was to change the Network ID of the Virtual Mobil App Device to match the one used on my first Hub. I'm now getting notifications from both Hubs on my cellphone. Once I get everything working on my new hub, I will consider trying Pushover because it might be the answer for a lot of other things I have going.
