Remote access and hub design questions

if i purchase c8 pro hub only without any subscriptions, will alexa skill work?
will i be able issue voice commands to control devices with alexa, just like on smartthings?

does app allow to controll devices remotely if i do not have any subscriptions?
i do not neet remotely administer hub, only need turn on heaters or lights in advance, from work while i am not on home lan

and final issue: are you planing anytime soon to correct physical design? so hub is white, has ceiling mounting bracket and poe?

Alexa will work without any subscriptions. If you put a device into a dashboard the mobile app (or a browser) can control the device remotely as long as the hub has an active cloud connection. POE not on the horizon as far as anything that has been made public, and color, there have been no public discussions.

Cover the top and sides of the hub in white vinyl wrap if color is an issue for you. Just leave cutouts for the ethernet, power and antenna ports.

What is incorrect about it? Since it’s inception it’s been the same basic design.

Paint would probably not be as heat-containing. Vinyl might cause overheating.

If you are choosing a hub based on color, SmartThings might be a better fit for you.

There are cad files in this forum for printing a mounting bracket. You can use a POE splitter, but only some work. Search this forum for a discussion.

If the hub has a cloud connection and you add the devices to the favorites section of the mobile app you can control them without a dashboard or subscription. The favorites kinda takes place of a dashboard for just basic features if you so choose to use it.

why they still sell c7? too many manufactured?

what is difference between mainland and hawaii models?
is radio power same?

any news on c9 arrival, perhaps white, ceiling mount and poe please?

Only the shipping is different. On mainland Amazon does our shipping for us, but they won't do it to Hawaii or Alaska, so we fulfill it ourselves from Arizona by USPS.

The hub for Hawaii is the US version hub, with same Z-Wave frequency.

I've been thinking the same thing. My reason is the Hub being black and my router being white may be causing some issues. I would feel better if they were the same.

I’m sure it will be some time after Silicon Labs announces their new zwave 900 series chip. Considering 800 series was announced 2021 the 900 series is likely a few years off.

considering your stated use case is:

what do you feel is missing from the current hub selection that might prevent you from doing all of this right now?

thank you for response
white, ceiling mount, poe - this is what missing
i mean what were they thinking

I dont there is any home automation platforms that meets all of these requirements. i think you should totally create one.

This is my hubitat wall mount kit, guaranteed to work on ceilings (popcorn ceilings are not supported) and it’s even white. :smirk:

Easiest solution would be to Google "White Plastic Project Box" and choose one that will fit the Hubitat C8 Pro, Antennas, and POE Adapter

Ventilation holes can be drilled on the side of the base to allow heat to escape.

RP-SMA short extension cables can be used to mount antennas outside of case, and you could buy white antennas at correct frequencies.
Z-Wave is 900 MHz and Zigbee is 2400 MHz

Or for a clean look use internal antennas like below, mounted inside the enclosure.

With RP-SMA Male to IPX U.fl Male RF Coaxial Adapter Connectors for connection to Hubitat C8 Pro

The POE adapter I would suggest you search the forum for one that other users have had good luck with, some POE adapters cause issues with Hubitat radios operation.

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: For Only $299.95 I can package this kit up for you, or you could save hundreds and DIY

The hub isn’t a WiFi access point, so I don’t think those attributes are as important to others as they seem to be to you.
