Reliable devices (WAF is dropping)

IS there reliable devices i have some nyce motion sensors that after year or now they only detect motion right under the device (tried batteries tried factory rest and re-add)

I also have to make bunch of rule with motion lights to get a round this but far as i can tell none of the mm-Zone motion sensor work with habitat - worth it add HA for this?

I also need to control lamps - but worried what ones will mess up my network and past one nearly stopped my network.

The hue motion sensor (the square one) has been rock solid for me. I have them in two closets that are used frequently for almost two years. Still on the original batteries. They just work.

If you are using Lutron Caseta/Diva, Iโ€™ve read their motion sensor is very solid. Unfortunately, it can only be used with a Caseta/Diva switch.

For controlling lamps, I switched to sengled zigbee A19 color bulbs about 18 months ago. I have about a dozen in service with most used daily. They have been rock solid, although I needed to remove knobs from lamps initially to prevent them from being powered down. Thinking back I think they were slightly annoying to pair.

Edit: The only thing I donโ€™t like about the sengled bulbs is they turn on after a power outage. I created a rule that turns them off whenever power has been lost and restored.

I had to remove a bunch of sengel bulb because it was affecting my network

I just remove 10 of them

I have a dozen NYCE ceiling sensors for years and never had a problem. Which model do you have? Most users report positive experience with NYCE sensors in general. Also, Sengled bulbs are not known to cause mesh problems, but they do require good repeaters to support them.

I have ceiling ones

They were awesome when I first got them

But now like I said performance is really down (the detection part)

Why I was hoping for real present senor for habit

They don't repeat so not sure how they would have directly affected other devices. Now controlling them is a different story. Any mesh needs repeaters for a strong zigbee or z-wave mesh. I have several of the NYCE sensors and they're my favorites.

Sorry was half asleep

So I have been so confused

A few years ago I posted in here for help and was told I had to many routers

I remove some and bought dedicated routers

Now I'm told I have 2 few.....

The biggest issue is zigbee routing and is horrible,
Devices pick router through 3 walls instead of the one 10 feet from it

I put on of these routers in the hall where most of them are and it didn't help

You really can't have too many repeaters. Every mains powered device weather zigbee or z-wave is typically a repeater.

Zigbee and z-wave are going to pick the fastest routes based on calculation. Sometimes that isn't always the device right next to it.

I have around 60 zigbee devices, maybe 8-10 of those are repeaters and my mesh is solid.... Very happy. And like I said, I love my NYCE sensors.

I did.

The issue I have is they used to detect me right were the paper said

Mount on 8 foot ceiling this 16 foot circle. So about 8 feet from the device and it worked great

Now for example the one in my kitchen it doesn't detect me until I'm about 2 feet away

By detect I mean just the motion part, the light flashes on motion detected.
I have replaced the batteries check for dust. Factory default. Nothing seems to work
Even factory default before joining a network the detection distance is the same
I have also had trouble with on c8 but that seems to have gotten better bow, I had to repair them after the c8 migration

I thought about firmware but I have never updated it so unless Ziggy/hibitat updated it on it own it should be what it shipped with.

Wait, that doesn't sound like a device problem, but more of a mesh problem. If you see the led, but the motion is reported seconds later, there is likely a latency within your mesh network.

I thought the light flash was "motion detected"

Am I wrong on that ?

I mean the light does not flash until I'm very close to the sensor when walking

***** unless all of your repeaters report power for every 1W, then you might run into problems if you have 20-30 of those.

could the sensitivity be a temp issue. those use temp to detect motion..

No, I thought you said the light flashes but the motion isn't reported. If it doesn't flash, then yes, that is likely a device problem.

Umm yeah when the light flashes the light turn on very fast like before the flash is fully done usually (or I at least hear the switch activation)

I have bunch of these and they all are acting the same, seem like I might have bad batch? I did buy them all at the same time

It's hard to believe they didn't show problems from the beginning. They do have adjustable sensitivity. Are you using the built-in driver, if so which one?

That is really odd/interesting...even if you got a "bad batch" it seems very unlikely they would all start having the problem at the same time, without some external change affecting them. As noted, these Nyce sensors have long had a strong following due to responsiveness and long-term reliability. Not saying you're wrong or anything, it's just an interesting and pretty odd experience. That would lead me to look for something that changed that is affecting them. :man_shrugging:

In the category of "just spitballin':"

  • One thing you could try (depending on your patience level  ) is take one to a different environment (like to your work location or neighbor's house) and see if it starts to respond normally again after a day or so. That would then indicate an environment issue.

  • Also, you said you checked for dust, did you blowing the sensor out w/compressed air, or similar?

  • Have you googled this issue to see if anything pops up? I tried and didn't see anything which makes this more odd...

They do have what looks like a support phone number on their site on their support page, no idea if they answer it, or if they charge for support:

Bobby - I don't see a motion adjustment option in the stock Nyce Motion Sensor driver, just for temp. Do I have the wrong driver?:

No, but if a custom driver is used, that could set different param.
