This app and driver were built using Claude Code
I have more than 20 WiZ dual-zone recessed bulbs, the ones with a separate center light and outer ring. I previously posted about them here: Canless RGBW recessed light recommendations - 2025 - #7 by Alan_F
The built-in WiZ integration was updated to work with these lights, but I've had issues with trying to control multiple lights at once, especially the outer ring lights which can lag by many seconds or fail to respond at all using the built-in driver. I found a Home Assistant integration (ha-wiz-dualzone) that was able to control multiple ring lights with no perceptible delay, but I prefer to keep as much as possible inside Hubitat rather than HA, so I used Claude Code to build a Hubitat app and driver using the HA code as a model.
What it does
- Each bulb gets a parent device with two child devices, Main and Ring (you can name them whatever you want). Each child is a full RGBW bulb: on/off, dimming, color, color temperature, and the built-in WiZ effects (with a dropdown to pick one and a speed setting).
- A discovery app finds the bulbs on your network and creates the devices. It keeps track of each bulb by MAC address, so if one gets a new IP you can just run discovery again to update.
- A custom WiZ group app lets you create a group device that sends commands to all selected devices in one quick pass, so they change together. If both zones from a single bulb (main & ring) are in the same group, they share one message instead of relying on separate messages.
Install
You can install it with HPM using Install → From a URL:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/youzer-name/Hubitat-Wiz_Dual_Zone/main/packageManifest.json
I'll edit this post once it is listed in HPM and can be installed by keyword search.
When HPM finishes, it offers to open the discovery app. Click Done once to install it, then open the discovery app again and search.
Setup steps and more details are in the README: GitHub - youzer-name/Hubitat-Wiz_Dual_Zone: Improved device driver to WiZ Dual Zone lights and app for creating device groups · GitHub
Notes
- I've tested it on a C7 and a C8 Pro, both on firmware 2.5.2, with WiZ bulbs that report module ESP20_DHRGB_01.
- Discovery only searches the hub's own /24 subnet, but you can add bulbs that are on a different subnet manually if your router passes UDP between the subnets.
- Changes made in the WiZ app or at a wall switch show up at the next poll (every minute by default), not instantly.
- If you're already running the built-in WiZ integration, you may want to disable your old devices after switching over to avoid double-polling.
