[RELEASE] The Flasher - Flash your lights based on several triggers

You have the device setup wrong. As it states, this is the Flasher Device containing the Presets you with to use. Not the device you want to flash.

Just an FYI, I'm learning some new things while working on Wake Me Up. If I can get some different bulbs (other than Hue) working over there, I may be able to get them to work over here too. I'll keep trying.

I'd love to order a nice Lifx bulb but last I checked, they were quite expensive. I should look for some other color bulb to order and that may also help your test base for these great apps you're creating. :+1:

Hello, I just installed this app and starting playing around with it. I may have missed it but is there a way to activate a preset through RuleMachine? I know it can be used as a stand alone app with specific triggers or used in your other apps (I was able to get to to work with your NHL Game Day app) but I cant find a way to call the presets in RuleMachine.

One example that I am trying to do is to implement flashing on my laundry notification rule and another idea is to flash a light blue when my weather station reports rain.

As a workaround I can create a virtual switch that the rules turns on and then link the switch with the flasher app but it would be easier to just call the appropriate preset in RuleMachine if possible.

Thank you for taking the time to make these apps!

Welcome to Hubitat!

Nope, The Flasher is a third party app, so it can't be controlled with RM (built in app).

You're on the right track!

Is there a list of which of your apps work w/this one? I was looking at Event Engine and didn't see a way to access the Flasher child I created. I did set this app to be controlled by your other apps.

Nope, but pretty much any app that has notification options has The Flasher

Go try again... (with the new version)

Trying this out. I have switched for my lights. Triggering it maybe flashes the light a couple of times. Am I to assume it works directly with bulbs only?

awesome works great for my hearing impaired wife I can flash lights a color to let her know someone has entered the house
now If can create an alexa routine to trigger this when my arlo door cam detects motion

1.1.5 - 01/05/21 - Fixed an error

Hi Bryan - thanks for the app, it does just what I wanted for notifying me if my shower leaks, or if there is motion near my front door. Just what I needed!

I would like to be able to flash a bulb to notify me if the outside temperature drops to a set temperature, so I know I've got to go out and get a rug on my horses. I use a Hue outdoor motion sensor as my temperature sensor outside the house. Any chance of adding a temperature trigger?

Thanks

Hi,

As a new Hubitat owner I am trying to build a Intruder Alarm using Hubitat Safety Monitor, which I have working except I would like to flash a few lamps. I have downloaded 'The Flasher' and managed to setup a switch followed by an action just to know I am doing something correct.

I have tried to set The Flasher up as a standalone app so it creates a virtual device, hoping that this would appear in the devices HSM could switch on.

My question isit possible for The Flasher to be setup so HSM can activate a lamp?

Thanks
Wayne

Have HSM turn on a switch, the switch can activate The Flasher.

Hi,

Thankyou for the suggestion, it has worked great. I have created a Virtual Switch and then set The Flasher to run when the Virtual Switch is turned on, this then causes the lamp to flash for X number of times, which is great.

This has created a few observations and a problem I would like to under stand:

  • When I set the number of flashes to zero, the lamp only flashes two times.

  • When I set the app to use a RGBW lamp it flashes but doesn't change the colour

If I set a lamp flashing for say 100 times, is there anyway to stop it flashing before it completes its 100 flashes? I have tried adding a second virtual switch to disable the app, hoping that when activated it would stop the flashing, but without success.

Any help as always is appreciated.

Wayne

Make sure the virtual switch stays on. If it turns off the flashing will stop.

I would need to see a debug log. As stated in the first post, please only use screenshots to post the log.

Just turn off the original trigger or turn the enable/disable device 'on'.

Hope this helps

Hi @bptworld, I have a Hunter fan with lights connected to a Bond Hub to Hubitat and am having problems with the lights staying on after they are triggers with The Flasher. Can you look at the logs and see if you see why they stay one. They flash 2 times like I want but then stay on. I tried adjusting the (Milliseconds for lights to be on/off) but they still stay on no matter what I set it too. Thanks.

Looking at your log, the last thing it does it turn the device off. At that point you would have to see if each piece of the chain receives the command and sends it to the next.

Thanks, here are the logs again but with the bond hub logs in there too. Not seeing that it turns it on in the end but it does remain on. app:50 is the bond hub fan light.
