[RELEASE] Simple Dates - Create countdowns of your special dates

*** BPTWorld apps are no longer being developed or maintained. Thanks ***

Introducing 'Simple Dates'
Create a simple countdown to your most important dates.

Features:

  • See how many days left to your important dates.
  • Setup multiple tiles ie. Holidays, School Days off, Birthdays or any special date!
  • Can also be used to turn a device on/off based on a date (school days off, vacation days)
  • Parent/Child App structure
  • Create as many child apps as needed

Apps can be found on my GitHub or by using the Hubitat Package Manager.
(HPM is highly recommended)

When reporting problems...

  • Be sure you are on the latest version. I won't troubleshoot an older version.
  • Turn on debug and screenshot the issue happening in the log. One line or just the error doesn't cut it. I need a log.
  • Post the screenshot of the log with an explanation of the problem.

Thanks

I'm assuming this is why you built this? Turns off the virtual switches on Notifier Plus so you don't blast the kids outta bed on holidays.

Hi, could I request that you allow the date format to be selectable for us peeps in the UK?

Would need an example please

The date today in UK format would be 10/11/19.

Hi bptworld

Thank you for ALL the very nice apps - Your awesome.

I have a question regarding this Simple Dates

Want to be able to view your data on a Dashboard? Now you can, simply follow these instructions!

  • Create a new 'Virtual Device' using our Device Container app.

Which Device Container app?
Can seem to figure out which type of Virtuel Device to create.

Im a n00b to these things im sorry

Thanks!

That's a typo. It should read...

  • Create a new 'Virtual Device' using our 'Simple Dates Driver'.

I just uploaded a new version with the corrected text.

Thanks

Is there any way to get the dates to show in the top of the tile?

Ive made the tile a bit bigger than the added dates so there is room for more, but then the center out in the tile which looks wierd.

Not that I know of. The dashboard likes to center everything!

Ok so thats the tile that defines that.
Thank you for the fast respons by the way

One more and hopefully the last question - Is there a way to force update the tile for each time i add a new date on the list, i have to set it manually 1 minute ahead so i dont have to wait.

Can't seem to find how to turn a device on/off based on a date. I am sure I am missing something simple.

Only just seen this update @bptworld. Thankyou.

Nope, it only checks once a day.

Whoops! Looks like I never uploaded that version. Here it is... :sunglasses:

I assume this doesn't work anymore. Anybody have replacement  like to set a countdown in days for retirement :stuck_out_tongue:

Works just fine. Are you seeing any errors? Please post a screenshot of a debug log.

Oh thanks! I just installed it and see that nobody mentioned it in some time. I followed the instructions and tried to add to dashboard. I was guessing for type and picked attribute but didn't see an option that shows up like you had in your dashboard. Current status shows the version of the driver and shows that on the dashboard so not sure if I missed a step. Hit the reminder with "test" and also saved preferences. Looks like I missed some instructions somewhere

dwDriverInfo : SimpleDatesDriver:v2.0.0

Btw, is there a way to add year? for example a countdown for an event that will happen in 3 years?

Always make sure that you have data in the device before even looking at a dashboard. Once you have data in the device, THEN try to add it to the dashboard. Select device, attribute, reminder1.

No, as the name suggests, this is a simple countdown to dates. It only counts down to the next occurrence of the date. I might be able to throw something together later today. Will see how the day works out.

Thanks bptworld! It now works with the days as you have. I guess I had to wait until the refresh time which I put at midnight. Now it does show up properly. I assume adding dates through the Device's "Simple Reminder1" string format is "xx/xx/xxxx date name"

Let me know if you need help to add years functionality to make it more fun. I could give it a whirl
