Given the reliability issues I am having lately, I'm considering replacing my Z-Wave devices with ZigBee equivalents, but can't seem to find outlets that can handle large appliances. I'm looking for something that can handle a 1200W continuous load from a window AC unit and has power monitoring. The other devices that the outlets will be used for are an old (non-Energy Star) washing machine, small space heater, a 1/2 HP shop blower fan, and a mini fridge. Anyone know of any reliable ZigBee outlets that can handle this?
Amazon has these SYLVANIA SMART+ ZigBee Smart Plug, Works with SmartThings, Wink, and Amazon Echo Plus, Hub Needed for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, 1 pack. They are rated at 120v 15 amp which is 1800watts. At least thats what google search told me. I have 10 of these.
The startup current draw for things like motors and compressors is often very high (like 2-5 times the steady current draw) for a few milliseconds. Not all outlets (z-wave or zigbee) can handle a larger inrush current, even if it is just for a few milliseconds.
Sinope SP2600ZB will handle 16.4 amps at 110v or 1800W
If you have really large loads, Sinope also has a wire-in load controller. But if you're in the US, I don't know if Amazon.ca will ship to you. I can get some things from Amazon.com here in Toronto, but I don't know if the opposite is true for US residents. Sinope sells direct, so they may be able to help if you need their 50A load controller for anything.
I can't find any info on these for inductive loads, so I'd be worried about using them with anything with a motor. Given the price, I think I might pick up some of these to throw around the house though.
Aye, that's why I'm having a hard time finding an outlet that will work. It seems very few mention anything about inductive loads in their spec sheets. I went with the Zooz Zen15's after having overloading issues with my SmartThings and TP-Link outlets, but I'm looking to potentially move away from Z-Wave now.
I think this might the one I'm looking for. The specs say it can handle 1/2 HP motors so I think should work for my various devices. I might have to keep an eye on that wire-in controller too if I decide to hook up my dryer at some point. Thank you everyone for the replies.
Sinope ships to US.... Just got 2 of my floor thermostats from them
