Recommendations for wall switch

Interesting!

In case anyone was wondering on Matter it is right here in the app notes, so I figured it was public info and could talk about it here.

I got more range, ie, to the driveway gate, when I mounted the hub on the wall.

Also, as I said, using long range Z-wave.

Vertical height also helps. Put it up by ceiling if possible. My wifi AP is on top of a kitchen cabinet centrally located in my home. Hidden there but works great.

I haven't decided what to do yet for this issue. I have a ZooZ wall switch that I am going to remove from inside the house and install it in the barn to see if it has any better range. Thanks for all the recommendations and advice.

Make sure you use SmartStart and pair as Long Range mode if it is a newer one that supports that.

Plus, the exclude first. You could SS it LR in the house.

I finally got this to work. I installed a zwave outlet in the garage in a spot near the front. The outlet did connect to the mesh and then the switch connected to it. There is a bit of lag before the light comes on but I now have it working. Getting a repeater to work inside the garage solved the problem.

I would look into getting a Long Range device for that spot honestly, unless you are OK with it possibly being unreliable. With only one viable path to the hub which involves a hop it may not work consistently. So don't be shocked if sometimes you cannot control it at all, or it misses automations, etc... May work fine 99% of the time though, so may not be an issue for you.

I agree with you completely. I will monitor this closely and see what kind of reliability I get. Thanks for your concern.
