Recommendations for garage door openers

There is little doubt that Chamberlain/Liftmaster are the best openers.

But their crappy business practices and shutting down their integration API really puts a sour taste in my mouth about supporting this awful company by purchasing more of their equipment. I will continue to warn everyone that asks for garage door opener recommendations about how this company values its customers.

It wouldn't be so annoying if Chamberlain had other home automation items like bulbs and switches or even some type of automations available within their ecosystem. But they are a closed system that is almost exclusively garage doors and gates. Even if you wanted to, you couldn't build a comprehensive home automation system using just Chamberlain items. So while locking you into their ecosystem, they simultaneously limit what options you have.

Same...mine is from 2017 so almost 8 years old now. I have a plain-old dumb garage door opener and control it w/this Z-Wave controller like these. I have an old v4 which doesn't appear to be available any more. Running strong....easy to set up w/dumb controller.

I have a ( 2 ) plain-old dumb garage door openers and used this ..
( 1 ) 2 Channel 5V 12V ZigBee Smart Relay Switch = $20.90
( 1 ) THIRDREALITY Zigbee Contact Sensor 2 Pack = $21.99
Thats it .. works great and now always shows open or closed.

Apparently I've just been really lucky. I have a Chamberlain/Liftmaster that was installed and I then set up with MyQ Lite just a little while before they shut down the API. I keep waiting for it to stop working, but so far it's been fine. I can open/close it with both Hubitat and HomeKit.

I don't have it open automatically though when I get home. Usually I'm on foot because I've been out walking my dog. The presence triggers when I'm not within sight of my house. Even though I live in a pretty safe neighborhood, I'd prefer to not have any door automatically open or close.

I have one of these but I got tired of it dropping off the network every time my house lost power to the grid.

Interesting. I've never had mine fall off my network w/power outages (or anything else), on C7, C8, or C8-Pro. Even when I was having issues w/some Z-Wave devices (primarily iBlinds) on the C7, the Linear was always rock-solid for me. Just goes to show it's a YMMV world...

Perhaps does one of you have the GoControl on UPS, and the other does not?

After a power outage I have had to reboot the odd door opener.
I have very stable power so maybe once a year tops.

Konnected has 25% off everything for Black Friday. The Blaq would probably be a good addition to this new opener, and would save having to run Home Assistant or a server when using Ratgdo.

Supposedly Matter is in the works too, which would be yet another advantage over other devices.

Nope, no UPS involved w/the GoControl. And didn't have UPS my hub until last year, so many years before that w/out a hub UPS.

I just ordered two of the Konnected GDO blaQ off Amazon yesterday. Slightly cheaper of their Amazon store and free shipping with prime. We have a new house being built and just last week I selected the Chamberlain wall mount openers.

After going through the MyQ crap with my current opener and finally installing a Zen17 I told myself that I would not support this company again, but they really have the monopoly it seems on wall mounted versions.

It looks like Konnected GDO talks directly to the GDO meaning it knows the position of the door without additional open/close/obstruction sensors and also controls the light. It sounds like the perfect integration.

I use a ZEN34 800LR remote switch to control the gate and garage openers from the car. I still carry the normal remotes though, just in case  .

Is there a generic driver that works on those relays that you could name or link to please? A bunch of them look the same on Amazon… maybe they all work roughly the same. Thanks!

Generic Zigbee Multi-Endpoint Switch < with two end points.

Fantastic - thank you!

This is what I do. When we are away, vacation and at night. I kill the power from my old garage door (chaimberlain) and it has been super reliable ever since. Have paired it with a Zooz relay and SmartThing garage door tilt sensor and have love every moment of it.

Only complaint is once every 8months-ish I have to replace the tilt batter since it also reports the temperature in my garage.

I've been using Tailwind controller, but it isn't linked with Hubitat. I have contact sensors set up on the doors to use as triggers.
I like the Tailwind setup for the WAF. It just works. The door opens for her when she arrives and closes when she leaves.... And if I leave it open at night, it automatically closes at a specific time.

Sadly, my mimo2+ appears to have failed after many, many years of reliability. It failed two nights ago just before I had to leave town for business. I have a zen17 on the way, but I have to admit, I really feel naked without status/control of my garage doors.
