Its not "msg.payload.motiondetected"; rather "msg.payload.MotionDetected" (case matters!)

when I did it that way I received an error message that the node wasn't configured properly.
Of course when I tried it just now it took it...

If you go to the debug output and click on the button circled in red, it will copy the path formatted exactly as you need it to clipboard. The button to right will copy current value for that path.
