Quick Questions (probably!) about GoControl GC-TBZ48

Moved this topic to the appropriate group -

I am using @bcopeland 's most awesome Advanced GoControl Thermostat driver. Recent battery problems led me to re-wire the thermostat with a 5 wire and all kinds of great things began to happen, such as the ability to enable the fan control as a circulation etc.

I have firmware 022200. Does anyone know if this is the last/latest? I believe you're supposed to be able to update that firmware via the usb port on the side but a) I can't find firmware versions online b) not even sure I need to.
Why am I even asking? My thermostat is mounted in a dark area and I want to enable Backlight on all the time. I tried the obvious 'set backlight to 0' but I get 10 seconds. I thought maybe the limitation is changed in new firmware.

Another question I have is 'what is the difference between the GC-TBZ48 and the GC-TBZ48L?

I called them and even though there is a usb port onboard and it says right on their web page that it's firmware is updateable, they claim it's not firmware updateable so who knows

I wasn't holding out hope. Any idea on the z48 vs z48L difference?
