Pros/Cons to using 2 z-wave sensors on same door OR 1 zigbee + 1 zwave sensor

Saw similar questions about 2 z-wave networks in the same house, but it has been a couple of years since the last posts, so figured I'd ask fresh.

My home alarm system uses z-wave 2GiG panel, and it was installed with door and window sensors. But over time, I got frustrated with the limitations of the Alarm.com software that I had to use for the home automation. My wife, however, likes the simplicity of the Alarm.com app for handling "home security", the monitoring company, etc.

I got the Hubitat for my home automation, with the promise that I'd leave the Alarm.com Alarm system in place and not mess with it (too much, shhhhh.) I added Aqara / Xiaomi zigbee sensors to the doors that already had z-wave sensors on them, but I'm annoyed at how often they freeze / lock / drop off the mesh, and otherwise make my automations unreliable.

Would using a second z-wave sensor on a door or window cause any issues? I'd like to know what the pros and cons are of using 2 z-wave sensors on the same door vs using 1 z-wave and 1 zigbee sensor before I go out any buy a bunch of new sensors.

Also open to suggestions for door sensors. I've had enough with the cheap xiaomi sensors. They always seem to fail on my wife (garage light turning on when the door opens, or motion detection for turning on the bathroom lights). I feel like Dome or EcoLink or Fibaro or Aeotec or anything with official drivers would all be more reliable than the Xiaomi devices that aren't supported officially,

no issues that i can think of. i have multiple z-wave switches in the same box and they work just fine. i also have a few spare contact sensors in a box and they can trigger no problems

I have a 3 gang wall plate with ZWave switches and dimmers.. those are literally touching. They all work.

I wouldn't put them side by side if I could avoid it, but there seem to be circumstances where it can't be avoided. :slight_smile:

Awesome. Thanks for the quick reply.

Are you talking about 2 sensors which would activate on the same door/window open/close? If so, I think having 2 Zwave sensors would interfere with each other. I have several doors with both Zwave sensors and Zwave locks, and if I lock the door immediately as it closes, I usually drop one of the two Zwave events.

@SteveZed yes, thats exactly it.
So the front door has a zwave sensor on it for the Alarm.com system. And my wife doesn't want me to remove any zwave stuff from the alarm system.

So I put a zigbee / xiomi sensor on the front door to use with hubitat. But I had the xiaomi sensors b/c they are unreliable. So I want to know if I can use a zwave sensor on the same door (one to HE, one to Alarm), or if I should get a different zigbee sensor.
