Proper way to reconnect a dropped z-wave switch

Hubitat dropped my GE Enbrighten switch that had been working fine. Tried reboot on the hub and Z-wave discover with no luck. Do I have to remove it and start all over, or is there a better way to keep my automations intact?

Is it a range thing ?
It might have been on the fringe of reception and gone out of range.
Are you using metal cover plates or whatever you call those frames that go around the switch because they’d block the radio signals.
I’d start by taking the cover plate off and do a Zwave Repair.

If you must remove it, create a virtual device and swap it out in it's place before you exclude it. That way you don't break your rules. Nothing more frustrating than breaking rules. (no pun intended)

Shouldn't be a range issue. Plastic cover plate. 2 Inovelli reds in the same box and Aeotec range extender 10' line of sight.

Thanks April. I am too new to know how to 'swap it out'. I created the Virtual Switch. What is the next step?

What do you mean it "dropped" it? Can you provide more details on this? Z-Wave devices don't just "drop" from the controller. They must be removed via the exclude process. Did the device just vanish from the HE device listing? In the Z-Wave settings was the device still listed or not?

Did you raise this to support before making changes like trying to exclude/include again? This is something support needs to look at.

I think @Plano_Harry means it cannot be controlled by Hubitat any more.

If you go in and edit your rule and add in that virtual device along side of your live device, then your rule won't get all broken up if you do have to remove the device.

Well that makes a lot more sense.

I'd try pulling the air-gap switch if you haven't.

Yes. It no longer responds to the Hubitat. Pulling the air gap worked!

That worked! Thanks!!

Hello all, having a similar problem with a GE Fan switch. Sorry when you say Pull the air gap, do you mean to do that in conjunction with other things, like pull the air gap and then reboot the hub, or are you just saying to power cycle the fan switch and it should come back?

Power cycle the switch.

Ok, and if that doesn't work (it didn't) I guess I'm at the remove and re-pair stage. Luckily this fan is only part of one rule, but I'd love to know why it was dropped in the first place.

It is still listed in my Hubitat, but I am unable to communicate with the device.

Cheers,

If you force remove, make sure that you also exclude the switch.

Just did it. It was pretty seamless. Luckily, the fan was only in one rule, and the rule didn't break. I was able to go back and add the fan back to the rule no problem.
