I'm currently using Life360 for presence and tracking our Son. We have moved to the mobile app for presence and now my wife is not to happy about not being able to see where the son is.
Does anyone have an app for Hubitat that will track my sons phone like LIfe360?
@marktheknife well that's just it. I'm not happy anymore. For the last few weeks, Life360 has not been working well for us. I have the paid version and would like to maybe save some money.
I see. AFAIK Hubitat can't do anything like what Life360 can, i.e. track and show a history of a phone's movements wherever it goes (many hubitat users consider that to be a bonus, since Life360 is pretty invasive, even when it comes to geolocation apps).
@Shaneb. Love Google Maps. Use it everyday. I will have to give this a try. Are you using or have you used the Sharing of Google Maps? If you have, how is it?
@basic261 I've used it for a couple of days just to play and seemed to work fine. I didn't know it was a thing until moving to android and it asked me if I wanted to do it. It did make me wonder why/if hubitat can use the API for location as everyone has Google maps
I'm going to try this. I'm going to start to share my location with my wife and her with me. Never know. Google already knows everything else about me. LOL
I've been getting notifications from Life360 that they are experiencing some issues. Perhaps they will make that right with you if you contact them? They've acknowledged that there's a problem.
@april.brandt That would be a great App. I'm testing now with my wife. Of course I won't be able to see how well it works until she leaves work. But man if it works and someone could Intergrate this with HE..... BAM
Me either, but I'm hoping maybe a guru will pop in and see this like @ogiewon (I'm drawing a blank on who else. The list is long.) and be like "here you go".
Doing research and test on the presence, location tracking area for the last couple months. Have tried on Android with owntracks, Tracar, family locator, Google Location share, Life 360, Radar.io, Tasker and etc.. So far only keep Life 360,Radar and google location share running on my phone.
Life 360:
Life 360 is the one only integrated with HE so far. You could use Life360 states which contributed by@bptworld. But the concern is Life360 terms of service agreement and sometimes it is not reliable.
Google Map/location share:
Pretty solid, but sometimes it has a little bit delay for the real time location updating.. But no integration with HE and you have to use google map to monitor. I guess you need Google API key to fetch the data.
Radar is a pretty new location context platform. It supports Geofence and Facebook Place Lib event triggered by API or webhook. I like event trigger which is more effective than query every x minutes for the location info updates. However, there is no integration with HE. You might need a web server exposure on the Internet to receive HTTP call and then do the local integration with HE (which I am studying and researching now).
Another alternative Android solution is using Tasker and Autolocation to monitor location, Geofence and activities. Similar with Radar solution , you need a webserver to receive HTTP call, and then integrated with HE.
Here's a simple idea that may save you some money, while still providing your wife with the data necessary as a parent...
Use the Hubitat Mobile App for Hubitat Geo-Presence. If it is working reliably for you and your family, then you've just solved one problem.
Switch to the free version of Life360. Then, only use it as a standalone app to be able to track each other's locations. Problem two solved.
Personally, we use Hubitat's Life360 integration for Presence as it has been the most reliable thus far. I also have the Hubitat Mobile App on some of our phones. I created a rule to compare the Life360 Presence Device to the Hubitat Mobile Presence device. It sends a notification if the two do not match for at least 60 seconds. Whenever this occurs, it has almost always (~95% of the time) been the Hubitat Mobile presence that is wrong. My wife and I use iPhone 7s running the latest version of iOS 13 and the latest beta version of the Hubitat Mobile App.
@ogiewon. Good idea. I'm testing out the Google Maps Sharing Location option. If that does not work, just might go with the FREE version of Life360. As long as the HE Mobile apps does the Presense sensing well.
