Hello, I currently use Zooz power monitor and it works alright, but I'm concerned with polluting my zwave network with all the reporting. I have adjusted/ restricted the power reporting threshold, but was curious if there are any ethernet or wifi enabled power monitors that work with HE?
TP-Link make the HS110.
What exactly do you mean by power monitor? Real time usage, if that is the case a lot of plugs report that, but if you want energy usage over time rather than just real-time, those are a bit harder to find, I use the HS110 like the post above and there is a community app.
For instance I have my TV on a Iris 3210-L2 plug, zigbee and you can find them for around $10 on ebay, that reports wattage, so when the TV turns on, the lights turn off and the motion sensing is disabled.
Basically just report power levels so that I can determine when the TV is on or off.
The TPL looks like a good product. Anyone know of any ethernet based power monitors? All of my TV locations have ethernet with CAT5 terminations.
What exactly do you want to do with the ethernet? I am not sure if the ethernet gets power data from the TV, unless you somehow have a PoE TV, but I am pretty sure PoE doesn't support that high of loads.
Or are you trying to use ethernet just for the communication versus wifi? In that case I have not heard of any modern IoT sensors that are wired communication.
Do you have any experience causing this concern because iirc, Z-Wave much like zigbee is not polling based unlike Kasa which is polling based, which would be putting extra strain on your wifi network. For zigbee/z-wave the device monitors locally and then sends an event out to the hub as necessary.

Yeah I have not seen any ethernet communication based devices for Hubitat. If I were you I would stay with the Zooz power monitor and try to detect any performance hits, maybe using Hub Watchdog. Then go from there maybe finding a less chatty device or trying a zigbee device. Kasa would be my last attempt for such a low draw device as a TV due to wifi overhead and polling overhead on the hub.
Thanks, I think I'm speculating a bit. It might not even be the Zooz causing the delay, I think I have too many zwave devices hitting the max 4 hop limit. I'm considering adding another hub on the other side of the house via HubConnect/ Hub Mesh.
Could also use a Zniffer to try and detect/visualize what is going on with your Z-Wave mesh.
The polling of the TP-Link devices has little impact on Ethernet. Each poll is a single message each way. In a 1gig ethernet, the response is < 4 KByte every poll (2 k ASCII characters plus overhead), << 1% of the wifi effective speed (ax is 200 Mbps). Big issue is Hubitat bandwidth in handling the messages and once every minute that does not appear to be an issue (unless you have a LOT of HS110's).
I believe the next firmware release is addressing the chattiness of the Zooz power strip.
Just a thought - you could buy Zigbee plugs instead..?
For my washing machine monitor i use the Smartthings smart plugs with power monitoring, and they work great.
I'm quite sure a lot of other brands make smart plugs with power monitor too..
I agree, but I would assume he would want the latency to be as low as possible so that as soon as the TV turns on it does what he wants, which would result, in my opinion, a polling of at least every 5 seconds. I brought this up because his original concern was with flooding his Z-Wave mesh, so I just wanted to bring up you may be solving one problem by creating another similar one on another network.
