Please consider a mechanism to clean up log files

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but my log files have become a hideous mess. A lot of this has occurred when troubleshooting and testing devices where they have bean added and deleted, sometimes multiple times. The attached picture illustrates the problem.

All the devices in red rectangles do not exist. They were created at one time and each receiving a unique device ID but later deleted throughout the course of troubleshooting/testing.
The device in the purple box exists, but not by the name shown in the filter list.

My wish:

  1. When a device is deleted, provide option to delete all associated log entries
    AND/OR
  2. Provide a "log cleanup tool" that removes log entries for non-existent devices AND matches the device name with the actual name given in the device-id.

It seems that I've accumulated a lot of useless garbage that's of no value that continues to show up in the list of filters and doesn't seem to get purged.

Hubitat's "Past Logs" is essentially a circular file of fixed size. Once enough new data is logged, the old data will be automatically purged.

Definitely can get a little messy when experimenting or first setting up lots of new devices/applications...but eventually it will calm down once the rate of change decreases.

Thanks for your response...

Yes, I'm aware of the automatic purging but I have junk that's been out there for a couple months now. So, not sure how long it will continue to hang around since I don't know the capacity of the log file.

Buy more stuff then it will go away faster. :joy:

Happy New Year!

Tagging @gopher.ny from Hubitat, as he may have a trick or two up his sleeve!

I think you can flush your logs by doing a soft reset, IRRC. I think there is an option in that flow to clear logs. Am I remembering correctly?

That's more of a nuclear option, but it will at least allow a fresh start.

I know all along there was a simple solution. :grinning: :grinning:

Yeah, soft reset with clear log option followed by a restore is the only way to do it right now.
