Can we get the option to select multiple switches here rather than just one? We are allowed to pick multiple motion sensor, multiple buttons, multiple contact, multiple modes, but only one switch.
In my use case it would be totally fine if all switches had to respect the same On/Off selection. I have multiple areas which are occluded from the motion sensor when someone is there, but also have "supporting" lighting. I don't want room lights shutting off just because someone is in the closet or one of the other areas. I understand I can work around this with virtual switches and such, but it would be nice if it was just allowed by default.
If you need a fairly straightforward workaround, consider making a group of the switches (I'd use Room Lighting app for this), whose "representative" virtual switch (a/k/a the group's "activator" IIRC) on/off status reflects whether all of its members are on or (partially) off.
I could see that resulting in a pretty polluted view if i need this for many more cases. I would much rather see multi select support. BUT if MML is dead, I like the group workaround better than vSwitch. THANKS for the idea!
The only thing that really gives me pause about using the room lighting stuff over MML is I have a very open concept house which makes any room based way of thinking about stuff very awkward.
If it helps to know, none of my RL applications involve same-room devices. The name "Room Lighting" was maybe the least cumbersome one for an app taking on the roles of MML and Groups & Scenes.
And part of the thinking (I think ) was that there had been requests for room-based lighting control where you could select a room rather than having to find all your lighting devices in the room) and room lighting provided that feature.
Of course, as you note you can use the app either way, and like you I don't think I have any Room Lighting automations that work from a room perspective.
For several fixtures in my house, I have bulbs in fixtures as "rooms" and multiple "rooms" in an actual room. Also, because of the way the switching is done, I was able to group the lights in a fixture controlled by a switch in another room (really just on the other side of the stairs in a completely open basement design) to be controlled from a button controller where I wanted it. This is all done using "room" lighting.
3 bulbs make a fixture, each fixture is its own "light" (aka room), mulitple lights in one room controllable by a single button controller. Each bulb can have its own settings if you want to get fancy. It is really quite versatile.
Edited to add - I even have two groups that are almost identical with slightly different settings - Turning on a switch disables one and enables the other, turning off the same switch enables the first and disables the other so that they do not step on each other's toes.
