This is especially important for custom drivers where some entries may not be obvious.

Well, you can put extended notes in the title field for preferences, and those notes can be quite lengthy. Whatever you put as the title for the preference gets displayed over the preference entry. You can even put linebreaks (\n) in the notes. Likewise, there is also a description field for preferences.
