Posting this in case it helps someone (or even helps me in the future).
I had to re-pair a Jasco 28175 Plug in Dimmer. This is a GE/Jasco product, but sold under multiple company names, and also has "Model: ZW3106" printed on the back.
I have two of these, both 28175 v5, both purchased direct from Jasco at the exact same time.
The directions for a factory reset state to press and hold the button for three seconds while plugging in the device. The directions for pairing state to press the button once to put it in pairing mode. This process worked on the second try for one of my devices.
The other one just would not pair - but I finally got it paired. This is how I did it.
- Unplug device
- Press and hold the button for over 30 seconds. This must drain out any residual charge/memory or something.
- Press and hold the button for about 3 seconds and continue holding while plugging in and continue holding until the light in the button starts to flash. In my case this was about 5+ seconds after it was plugged in.
- Press the button once firmly.
- Start the HE pairing process via Add Device/Find by Brand/GE-Jasco/Dimmer/Plug in Dual Outlet Smart Dimmer 28175
- Once the HE pairing process starts, quickly triple tap the button on the device.
Pairs after about 30 seconds. I was able to replicate this twice with this particular device.
To me it is completely bizarre that one device pairs one way, and the other device pairs another way, because in Device Details, Data, they both have the exact same deviceId, deviceType, firmwareVersion, hardwareVersion, manufacturer and protocolVersion. But I attemped the procedure in the instructions and that worked with the other device 19 times, and it failed every time. I did it with excludes before the pairing attempt, I did it with holding the button until the light flashed, I did it by holding the button for only 3 seconds, I did it by triple pressing to pair without holding the buttion until the light flashed, etc. None of it worked, but the above process works.
Hope this helps someone. I was going to post this to the two other threads in which posters asked for help in pairing one of these, but those are both closed. I also read somewhere (this board or other) that these things just die after a period of time. Could be that mine is on its way to dying, but at least this worked!
