My setup:
Main C-7 with antenna mod and both radios on. Zigbee channel 20.
Secondary C-7 with radio's disabled for LAN stuffs.
Hue hub on channel 25.
I'm using CoCoHue on the secondary hub to bring over the Hue devices.
Predicament:
I've installed Innr, Hue, and Sengled bulbs and, for my purposes, none of them are a real winner/loser. They have all been reliable and hit the commanded colors and what-not without issues. The Hue and Innr bulbs are on the Hue bridge. I have 9 Sengled bulbs connected to the main C-7.
Every bathroom has, essentially, the same automation that's a lengthy RM instance. The rule is based on the motion sensors in the bathroom (main hub) and the exhaust fan switch (main hub) to control the lights (secondary hub). I'm replacing the vanity bulbs in each bathroom and am at a crossroads on which devices to get. Really, I'm bouncing between the Innr and Sengled. The Hue's are nice, but cheapest I've found a standard A19 is about $30 if I can get them in a three pack...they bounce in and out of stock.
So, if I go Innr, no big deal and they'll be on the Hue bridge. However, these will run me about $180. I can use Sengled bulbs and get the cost down to about $110. The problem is that I either have to Hub mesh them from the main hub to the secondary, add them to the bathroom's Room Lighting instance, and then have them back to the main hub via hub mesh. Motion triggers, RM kicks the lights on, commands over hub mesh to secondary, secondary goes back to primary for those Sengled bulbs, primary feeds updated status back over to the secondary, secondary returns status to primary for the RL instance as a whole. Just a whole lot more back and forth.
Alternatively, I could enable the Zigbee radio on the secondary hub and drop it on channel 15, but that will mean needing to add repeaters to that hub for the bulbs. Most of the repeaters for my main hub are switches. So, that would most likely turn into me moving most of my Zigbee devices over to the secondary hub. That, in turn, means re-writing/migrating RM rules and dealing with setting everything up in hub mesh. I have Maker on the primary hub feeding all my dashboard tablets around the house, so everything in the dashboards, at a minimum, would have to be sent over.
So, what would you do?
- Eat the higher cost and just go with Innr bulbs.
- Put the Sengled bulbs on the primary hub and ignore the inefficiencies.
- Enable the Zigbee radio on the secondary hub and just make it the new, main Zigbee hub.
