I love the transfer switch, need one bad, hurricane season starts next week!
Transfer switch is pretty nice! I got one installed as a pony panel a few years back⦠but never got to use it yet, which I guess is a good thing!
Our power company here in New Brunswick also offers one of those transfer switches that are on the meter, but they charge an arm and a leg for them! It was much cheaper for me to get a pony panel installedā¦
FYI, that kind is limited to generators that are 9600W and smaller.
I would recommend adding a 50A inlet and an interlock kit. It will work with larger generators, and is generally less restrictive.
Perfect.
It was free so I took it, it allows up to 30A 240 so 7200 watts on that one
If I want to run my big generator then I use a "back-feed" setup with main breaker off ![]()
Edit: I rarely use this as my other method of back feeding with main off keeps the generator in an outbuilding away from house so less noise
and better weather protection than at the meter.
This guy gives a basic explanation of how a smart meter works.
The power company can turn off your power remotely. Get the tin foil hats out.
