Another X10 user (for so many decades) that was looking for a modern local environment. Hubitat was a perfect choice. I’ve been a happy C5 owner around the time Iris was rescued and the old app introduced. I purchased a C8 last year shortly after release, left it in the box (listening to many in the community) about a year until a lot of issues were resolved being in no hurry to change.
I would define my use as “automated home” rather than “smart home”; lights on and off to pretend someone is around, motion sensors and perimeter contacts for intrusion detection, water and smoke sensors to minimize those problems should they occur. My hub is connected through ethernet, powered from a UPS and I install only Zigbee and Zwave hardware on the compatibility list.
I’m seeing numerous posts about the new android app and issues with connections & dashboards & notifications. In my case on premise WiFi and carrier connections are perfect on the old app and work on the new app (although I believe notifications are slower). Using off premise WiFi (4 locations tested) the new app will load but not show dashboards. If I use my OpenVPN while connected to the off premise WiFi the new app functions.
I have removed the new app so I’m not (potentially) causing problems bouncing from old to new. I’m in no hurry to adopt initiatives the new app provides, my primary interest is reliable connectivity and timely nofifications.
I’m wondering if the staff of Hubitat would consider leaving the old app downloadable after tomorrow should I or other like minded people drop a phone and wish to install the old app next week (or later) on the replacement cell phone? I appreciate the old app will not be supported.
