Okay to throw out z-wave switch boxes?

I just had 10+ zooz z-wave switches installed in my home and wondering about the boxes now. I know they each have a QR code on them, for SmartStart I think? If I'm not mistaken, this code is also on the switches themselves.

Additionally, I added them all in via inclusion+tapping the paddles themselves to pair. So... do I even need these boxes anymore? Do I need to cross-reference them to the switch? Take photos + log their codes or anything?

If you ever decide to pair them S2, you'll need either the QR code (for SmartStart) or the 5-digit DSK code. The QR code from the box is the easiest one to save if you prefer that option, but I just keep a list of each device's DSK.

It came in handy when I decided to move my stuff over to S2 - then I didn't have to pop off faceplates and/or pull devices out to find the sticker.

Sounds good. I guess I'll simply log them as I might as well, then throw it all out.

But the electrician did leave the boxes by the outlets, but some are in multi-gang and so I don't actually know which box matches which device. Is there an easy way to cross-reference them for my logging... or do I potentially not even really NEED to know?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's possible to get the DSK from anywhere but the box or sticker on the device (I.e. it's not in the UI).

I forget if Zooz puts the sticker on the front of the switch or somewhere else. If front, then easy to confirm by just removing the wall plate. If somewhere else, butt pain increases.

You could build the list and just note which ones you're not certain about. If you ever need to use it, then hopefully it's just a few (and not all) that you have to pop open to confirm & update.

If you do S2, you will need either the QR code or the correct/exact DSK - there's no scan-for option or anything like that.

I would use a label maker and attach the sticker to the back side of the wall plate. No need to disturb the switch.

What happens if you provide the wrong five digit DSK code when trying to pair with S2?
If you just get an error, and are allowed to retry, I would just keep the two or three DSKs in that box handy and try them one at a time until it pairs.

No idea and not willing to find out. I'm so petrified of having to deal with any type of botched ZW pairing issue, I triple-check the DSK each time I have to enter it.

You are braver than I!

I checked a ZEN77 LR 800 (still in the box), a ZEN30, and a ZEN32. All had a sticker on the front left corner with the QR code and DSK PIN, viewable by removing the wall plate.

Careful, my low budget painter sprayed over all my DSK labels and some outlets.
IIRC I had an issue with a 2nd hand z-wave lock and used z-wave pc controller somehow to figure out the code, but don't recall how

Personally, I have cut out the QR from the box and then wrote on it what device it is and location. I like using the Smart Start pairing, it is so much easier. I may eventually take pictures of them all and toss the hard copies. You only need the DSK to use S2 security, you can pair with no security without it, if it was lost. You only need the QR code for Smart Start which has the full key, DSK, and some other info embedded in it. Only exception is locks, they usually REQUIRE security or the refuse to pair.

Check the DSK on the face of the device (behind the cover plate by the QR code). You can match that to the DSK on the box to know which is which.

You can get it using PC Controller but its not easy. Helped someone recover it for a lock where they had lost it and could not pair the device. Also tested it myself in the process.

I was also able to generate a new QR code for one of my used locks I bought where I only had the full key / DSK hand written from the prior owner, but not the QR.
