Odd. disabled app turned itself back on

Unsure if it was a crash or an update, or possibly HPM matchup... I disabled Smarter Humidity Fan.. and it turned itself back on. Someone should look into that.

It's probably hard to look into it without a few more details, I would suggest.

You may want to clarify:

  • When you say the app was disabled, how exactly had you disabled the app? Not suggesting you hadn't just what you mean by that may be important to understanding what changed.
  • Similarly, when it turned itself back on, what were you seeing. I'm assuming the devices coming on and off, but was there anything else that you saw to indicate the app state had changed?
  • With your theories around the reasons why, do you have any logs that might help narrow down some of the other events that occurred? Can you lookup the hub logs to see when / if a platform update was applied?

There probably other things to check, but don't want to get too far ahead...

I moved this thread into the lounge.

If OP has any more details to share, it might make sense to move back to feedback or get help categories.

Otherwise, what is there to look into?

hey @sburke781 - just a quick overview, not really delving this - I have a humidity sensor in the shower - it holds the bathroom lights on using Smarter Humidity Fan app.
Yesterday afternoon, as I walked by the hall on my way to my office from the coffee pot in the kitchen I could see the bath lights on. started about 2pm. I while back, maybe 2 weeks now since HE went haywire, the lights were going on in the main bathroom as I was sleeping - I closed the door and ignored it that night, then in the AM, I checked logs to see that Smarter Fan was enabling lights due to humidity being 75%. A sensor was not reporting well. Regardless I disabled Smarter Humidity Fan and vowed to come back to it when HE settled down.
As mentioned, yesterday the lights started going on. I kept smacking a button which I have in the office to turn off bath/bedroom. An hour later I'd notice they were on again.
When I looked into it last night - I found Smarter Fan NOT disabled. There have been a number of hub crashes, at least 5 in the last 2 weeks, reboots on my part for driver work, (likely 2-3), a problem found with HE DNS bad in my HE about 4 days ago (my Echo Speaks Cookie wasn't refreshing - Hostname was failing because no DNS) and now this.
This AM, another fun quirk. a rule in Room Lighting was 'paused'. Also in the bathroom.
No idea why it was paused, I didn't touch it.
I'm preparing to put 2.3.4.x back to try and stop the mess my HE environment has become, so I'm just chalking all this up to the C8 changes and problems. Not really interested in working on the whys. I just note it in case it triggers others who are trying to figure out whats different in the HE this month vs last. Hope that helps.

Did your hub crash/reboot on its own during the interval? If the database was corrupt (hence, causing the crash), it may have loaded the last good/viable backup when it rebooted.

If that last backup was made before you changed the enabled/disabled of various apps, app status upon reboot will reflect app status at the time the backup was made.

easily a possibility. corrupted database would account for a lot.

This may not explain everything, but if you haven't already, you may want to double-check the In Use By section for the lights, just to cover off anything else that may be controlling them. Also turn on logging on the Smart Humidity Fan App.
