Notifications app - no Illuminance available

Requested once before and ignored.

Well, it pops up when I put in the title as a recommended thread, but it is closed.

This post? How about adding illuminesence as a trigger in the Notifications App?

Its from 2021.

You want to create a notification based on illuminance levels? It could be done pretty easily in Rule Machine or possibly even Basic (or Visual) Rules depending on how complicated you need it to be.

Yes, I realize there are many ways to skin this cat, I just thought it would be nice to add that capability to the Notifications App. Seems like a reasonable request.

I agree.

Each rule app is simply a distilled subset of RM. As Bruce has pointed out many times, how many things need to get added to an app such as simple automatons or notifications or even HSM until it's essentially rule machine? From my own POV (and I certainly don't speak for others) I don't see a need to add it to another app when another app does the job just as well... again JMO

Then why not just one RM to rule them all? Dispense with all the other derivative system apps, eh? It'd free up more developer time to work on Aqara and Matter integration and interface frillies. Of course, JMO.

Yeah, there is. It's called rule machine. I thought that would be fairly obvious to you given how long you've been here.

But also different levels for different needs. That should be fairly obvious. That said, I don't think simple, basic, HSM, or notifications has been added to in a while.. So stuff has been worked on more like Aqara and Matter integrations as well as the UI. So I'm not exactly sure what your argument is about when you pointed out what's already going on.

JMO, of course.

From my perspective, being notified about illuminance is not at all a main stream use case. I'm going to stick to the notion that if you need something outside the main stream, there are already multiple ways to accomplish it, so adding more features to Notify doesn't make the cut.

I think my original idea was to get notified if the fridge door was open via a lux notification from a Hue motion sensor, which also does illumination. I did use rm. Of course this was all before i ditched zigbee and chucked all the Hues.

I'm just going to show this list then butt out of my own topic. Seems like pretty much everything is there except illuminance. Power Meter? Tamper Sensor? Humidity Sensor? What's the difference?

Illuminance Measurement devices will be supported in the next release.
