[NO LONGER MAINTAINED] LG ThinQ integration attempt?

Thanks. That is what I was wondering. Some of these things will let you capture data or do controls locally, after the initial app install. Others send the data to the cloud and you need to connect to the cloud to get back the data from your device that is 2' away from you - sounds like LG is of the latter cloud variety. Based on that, I won't dive into this. Trying to make sure as much as possible stays local.

Appreciate the clarification.

Hello,

I have installed this using the HPM but when I am trying to configure it it gives me a blank page
After i input my LG credentials a new page pops up but it stays blank
The URL seems to be pointing to a kr.m.xxxxx page
I know my credentials are ok because I'm logged into the app and I can also log into the website

I know the title says "deprecated" but I saw recently that someone has picked it up and the package is still available in HPM
Is this really no longer supported?
If yes is there any other ways to integrate the LG crappy Thinq into Hubitat?

Thank you

I have and LG washer and gas dryer. I use Zooz Zen15 power plugs to monitor the current used by these appliances. When the devices turn off I can use the event to trigger other actions such as an announcement that the laundry is finished.

Of course, if you have a 230V- 30 amp electric dryer, the Zen15 cannot be used Some folks have tried things like using a vibration sensor on their dryer, but it is not as reliable as desired.

I think you want to copy the URL of that blank page.

  • Right now I just have an app, install it. When you run it, click the href and it will load the LG login. After you click Sign In you'll get redirected to a page (your browser might htink it's Korean). Copy the URL you're redirected to. Close the popup, wait for the HE App to reload and paste that URL into the URL textbox in the app. Click Next. At this point it will create a log message of the detected devices.

Hope this helps.

@AdrianCanuck With regard to the blank page….I had similar issues when I set mine up. Most of the url that was to be copied was hidden and so it didn’t work. It turned out that it was because I was using Safari web browser. I just used a different browser to open my hubs webpage and that made the difference, with the full url being visible to copy on that page that comes up. I think I used Firefox but just try any other browser you have.

Hi guys,

I have tried with 4 browsers Brave Safari Edge Firefox and they were all giving me this dreaded blank page.
I have followed the @swade' suggestion and paste the KR URL down in the app url and it actually took it. :confetti_ball:
In all honesty this is more of a convenience feature and I could have lived without. I have the LG Skill installed on Alexa and despite appearing to be running it does not announce the end of a washing/drying cycle like it is supposed to, so pretty much useless. I was hoping to go the Hubitat route and have this done through Hubitat.Like a lot of people my laundry room is in the basement and it would be nice to be notified wherever I am in the house when things are done.

MANY thanks to @swade and to everyone that pitched in

Hi all,

Does anyone have an issue where the Thinq server stops sending unsolicited updates? And if so, then how was it remedied? I have a fridge where the door status just stops updating, it works fine for a few hours then just stops and the debug logs go silent. I've tried the Homebridge plugin as well with the same results.

Thanks

I personally never got the door notification and I kinda lost hope on the Thinq and LG overall
Their app is a joke. I have all my appliances LG/Thinq
I do get some notifications...sometimes Like the oven needs cleaning but that's pretty much all
Never bothered to investigate as it's too much of a hassle and LG support is beyond useless
Now I can't even log into my account online despite resetting my password several times.
Anyways, sorry I can't be much of a help just describing my own experience with LG/Thinq

RE: The LG app. Yes, it's a joke. They used to show individual burners on my (dual fuel) LG range, now it's just a generic single burner shown. Whomever dumbed down the app should be flogged.

Without dragging this too long and spamming these forums with LG hate just to illustrate my point,
One cannot submit any inquiry to LG without a case number and a prrof of purchase (regardless of what your problem is). But you if cannot log into your account and you never get a case no there is no way you will ever get a response
Catch 22 with a twist of sadism

PS this was me simply emailing them through their generic form on their website

OK, one more then I'll stop.

Our new (expensive) steam capable stainless silent LG dishwasher initially refused to run, throwing codes related to door and/or "out of level" condition. Countless calls to support with a unwavering response that it was "out of level." It would run when pulled out, then not when put in place (and secured). We finally got it to run by securing it to the cabinets through the side holes and not the top rail - attached to a wood block glued to granite, considered a "stable" surface by anyone with half a brain. That was my first clue that something just wasn't right with it.

We dealt with intermittent codes and failure to run for nearly a year before it finally refused to work at all. Door code/unlevel condition, etc. Several calls to support during that time. OK, one time it did have water overflowed into the drain tub. After lots of pressure to send a tech, I finally get one and when he calls, he casually says, "Oh yea, that's a known issue and we have a revised door latch control board.. I'll order one before I come out." Problem solved.

FWIW, the DW also had to have the upper deck pickup housing replaced (the "rubber" fell apart) - also redesigned, the motor assembly replaced, and the door seal replaced. Thankfully, I was buying extended warranties due to the original issue as I knew it would eventually bite me.

Range/oven has had the oven control knob replaced, and I've 3D printer better (tighter tolerance) knob support inserts.

The one appliance I expected the most trouble from - the "linear compressor" fridge has been the most reliable save the crap "rubber" they use as it needs a door seal after only 5 years. Seems I got one that had a redesigned compressor and they also extended the (parts) warranty on them to 10 years.

I'll chime in - my new LG fridge made an awful sound whenever the compressor would run.
Called LG who advised they could not do anything (ie could not honor their warranty) because they had no authorized service techs within 60 miles of the central core of my city (top 10 in list of US largest cities, within 3 miles of downtown).

Since I bought the thing from Costco, I called them and advised they could either come pick it up and refund my money, or get it fixed. After 4 weeks the Costco concierge "escalation" team calls to advise after multiple "escalations" and hours negotiating with LG, LG agreed to send a service tech. He drove 3 hours, from a city that barely made the top 150 list for size. Took him 10 minutes to fix it and said it is a known issue - many fridges left the factory without a 2nd fastener over a plastic cover near the compressor. The cover then shifts to rest on the compressor and rattles making an awful sound every time the compressor goes on.

My Lesson: Always buy appliances from Costco, and go through Costco when you have a warranty problem.

As far as the LG app, based on what I have read here, I am not going to even try to connect it.

I had the very same issue with my 1st fridge, but was able to get a tech to look at it and quickly fix it.

A while later, the wifi gave out and they replaced my fridge instead of fixing it! That one didn’t have the issue.

Both were connected to Hubitat, but the connection doesn’t really add much value with this fridge…

The only thing I thought would be useful is to track how many kw the refrig and range use. But someone posted that issue is not tracked by the app, so I dropped any thought of connecting.

I'm with you. When I first got my LG appliances, I connected to the app. I did not find it useful. It would send a report each month indicating how many wash loads were done during the month and which wash modes were selected, but that is not something I really need to know. When I upgraded to a new router, I did not bother reconnecting the appliances, I do not miss it one bit.

I find it a bit useful. First washer and dryer: My wife is often far from the washer so she likes when Alexa tells her that the cycle is completed. And I'm using the AC control: When it starts, Alexa tells me which windows are opened and need to be closed. HE also starts the AC when it's hot enough and close it in the midlle of the night. Also I can start it over the internet before going home. That's better than nothing for me.

@jbilodea Does the actual Alexa LG skill work for you to announce the washer/dryer status or you went the Hubitat route? I'm simply curious because mine is not working, I set a rule in Hubitat to announce when the washer/dryer is off to announce otherwise I have to run up and down to check on my laundry
On a more generic note I find it mind boggling that in 2023 the major manufacturers fail to provide not only some reliable appliances but seems that IoT is for them something unheard of. Not even asking for much. Don't need fancy fridges with useless screens that don't work and are laggy AF(talking about you Samsung :grinning:) but like little simple useful reminders or alerts (useful being the keyword here). I have yet to discover one brand that does it

I'm using hubitat to announce the status of the machines.

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am new to hubitat and have only done the sleepnumber integration. I have an LG washer and dryer and would like to have alexa anounce when a load is finished. This seems like the right thread. Could someone please point me toward the github page I should be using to set this up?

Thanks

I think you can use package manager to install it.
