The newest Samsung SmartThings hub ditches Z-Wave | The Verge The newest Samsung SmartThings hub ditches Z-Wave | The Verge
Wow...I am so glad I made the switch from ST 5 years ago.
Wow, that’s a big change! Ditching Z-Wave is surprising since so many smart home devices rely on it. I wonder how this will affect existing setups and whether users will need additional hubs or adapters to keep using their Z-Wave devices.
IMHO HUGE mistake, Z-wave has been the most reliable for me. And wasn't Aeotec focused on Z-wave?
Yes, Aeotec is long term Z-Wave house... They took over making the SmartThings hub and Zigbee (edited per nclark catching typo) devices from Samsung.
I think you meant to say Zigbee here ![]()
The Homey Pro Mini also ditched Z-wave. To continue using Z-wave with the Homey Pro Mini you have to have the Homey Bridge.
Oopsie...yeah, took over the hub and other ST HW at the time, which was Zigbee.
They make their own Z-Wave devices as well. I'll edit above...
Seems like this is all part of the Matter push?
I think it’s just typical Samsung not giving a crap about how its customers use its products. Samsung doesn’t make Z-Wave products, so Samsung doesn’t need a hub with Z-Wave capabilities. I imagine that the next iteration won’t have Zigbee either as long as Thread/Matter have gained enough traction. So glad I ditched SmartThings when I did. I have never missed it.
