New Shades- Brand Recomendations

Going to replace some edit: shades in our house with some motorized ones. They 100% need to be controllable from wall control, but would love to have easy integration into HE.

I have Levolor motorized edit: shades in the house. The integration into HE was a bit clunky....I have to pair with Smart Things and then share the smart things device with HE. It works, but I'd love something natively connectable to HE.

Any brand suggestions?

I don't think they have blinds per se (as in slatted Venetian blinds), but I like the SmartWings brand. If you are open to shades of various types, that would be my go to. Not inexpensive though.

Sorry....I use the term "blinds" as universal window treatments (yes I know I'm wrong)......Will prob go roller or roman shades.

I was looking at smart wing. Prices aren't horrible. How long is battery life? (lets say they open and close just once a day)

I’ve just had mine a few months, and although I’ve charged them a couple of times, it wasn’t because they were low. My gut feel is somewhere between 3 to 5 months between charges.

iBlinds (Z-Wave) are somewhat popular here...both native and community drivers. For wall control you'd need to add buttons or similar setup next to the bilnds, there is no local control option other than a hard to reach "open'close" button more useful for troubleshooting than regular control.

If you do just a little searching here you'll find similar threads about what blinds people like...worth a moment of your time to see what's recently been discussed.

As you can see...there's a lot of discussion already.

@sabre170

Get any 2" - 2-1/2" blinds you want, then use iblinds v3 motors. That way you're not limited to a style.

That's what I do...but he'll need to check/confirm that the horizontal blinds' that he gets have a headrail that fits the iBlinds motor. Most should.

Yeah, they are distinct capabilities in Hubitat. Blinds have a tilt attribute for the slats, unlike shades, which are just open and close.

If you really meant shades in above, maybe edit your first post to replace "blinds" w/"shades" so that you don't get pummeled w/more blinds recommendations.

I've had these for a couple of years and they have worked well. Batteries last about 1.5 years opening a couple times a day. Works on my horizontals. They are zigbee.

If you’ve gone down the Lutron rabbit hole, they make shades and blinds too:

Thanks everyone. Some good suggestions here!

I wish there was a retrofit like this for shades that would open and close (non-bead chain type). One of the rooms I want to motorize has roman shades we like, but want them to open and close on a timer. They are the string style (non chain) and I haven't seen any retro fit kit for this.

AM43 motor has string wheels on it (you will have to tie the ends together)

woah....that's awesome. My shades have the little string lock up at the very top....I'm guessing you just disengage that perinatally.

Looks like there is a Blutooth, wifi and also a zigbee version. I assume both can be incorporated into HE? Obvously the Blutooth wouldn't connect to HE. The forums seem very clearl the zigbee does connect. Any clue if the wifi will connect to HE?

I've been happy with the Bali blinds. I picked them up when they were half off at Home Depot. They were made to order and I have them floor to ceiling in a bay window.

I have 18 Smartwings roller shades. Love them, work perfectly with Hubitat. I tried one of their Roman shades and did not care for Smartwings implementation of a Roman shade (they replaced that for me NC.) . Built in Lithium batteries go three months or so on a charge with daily use, recharge in a few hours. I attached the solar panel chargers to most of the shades and they require no additional attention.

Was skeptical about the solar chargers.....so you never have to plug those in to charge? The solar panels provide enough juice to keep them charged up?

Never, and that has been for a couple of years.
Everything but LR * are on solar on chargers. The couple that are on the low side are heavily shaded under a porch roof. The patio shades are large outdoor shades. Larger waterproof solar panels. I picked up four of these from Amazon and they seem to work equally well. Seem to be almost identical.
