Once again many thanks for the feedback, this forum seems full of helpful people and I'm sure I'll be asking for help along the way as I learn more about home automation...

There are some seriously hardcore enthusiasts around here.. it is both awesome and terrifying. Makes one feel a bit inadequate at times...

Yeah it was quite the undertaking. I am a Mechanical Engineer by trade, so the mechanical side of things was pretty easy for me. The hardest part is tolerancing for my crappy 3D Printer haha. Was definitely a great learning project though! I learned a lot about ESP8266 boards, and even arduino in general. Luckily the internet is a great place to learn all of that stuff.
