I am glad to hear that your sensor is working, so thank you for the update. You should have received a message from us informing you that we didn't identify any issues with your hub and that likely the sensor may have itself an issue. It was sent on January 5th., following my above post: New Hub (c8) - Smartthings Contact sensor - #46 by bobbyD
Actually , I am not glad as you, because it was solved by chance. And we don't know the root cause of the problem and if it will happen again or not.
Additionally, recently I purchased a new contact sensor from here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YQCWQM?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
And I had the same problem with that one on C8. It easily paired with my old C3 and C5 hubs. On the C8 , it was successful only after a few hours of retries.
So basically I can say that the C8 hub is not playing well with these contact sensors. But no problem with older hubs.
Isn't this a problem that should be analyzed by Hubitat developers/support ?
well, it is obviously not an issue with the sensor , because of 2 reasons:
- the sensor can easily pair with C3 and C5 hubs
- I also had similar issue with a new sensor
I did not receive an email with this content neither on Jan 5th nor after that date.
Thanks again for your feedback. That might be very well the case, however, we haven't seen similar incidents reported with this specific device, and without any obvious problems with your hub, we can only assume that the problem is particular to your device.
If you'd like us to further investigate the issue with your device, please send me a private message. I'll provide you with my address and will add the device to my testing environment to see if I can replicate the issues that you've been having.
I am not sure if I understood your proposal. Do you want me to send you the device ?
That's not feasible. Because I live in Turkey and for each shipment abroad I pay a very high tax (either import or export)
So I already have paid more than 50$ (with the shipment) for the order of:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YQCWQM?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
And although with some difficulty, it is working now on my hub. If I send it to you it will cost me again 20-30$ and when you send it back to me I pay again 20-30$
If you are willing to fix the problem, you can get one from Amazon for just 24$
BTW - Did you ever review your Wi-Fi setup to confirm you don't have 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi channels sitting close/on top of your Zigbee channels? Do you know what channels your 2.4Ghz (and that of neighbors if you are in an apartment/condo)?
my router says current control channel 5
I don't think that this issue is related to my wifi channel, because;
- I tried powering off my router when the device was not pairing and nothing changed
- I have more than 50 zigbee devices from different brands which pair easily. As I wrote before in this thread; I believe this contact sensor device is a bit more chatty and it makes the pairing phase difficult. What needs to be done is to analyze it on hub side and maybe make a faster pairing phase. And I believe this is different in C3, C5 and C8 hubs. Because C3 and C5 can easily pair with this device.
- My other hubs (C3 and C5) can pair easily with the same device in the same wifi environment.
btw, my zigbee channel is 18 because on ch 20 I had other issues which were not solved.
If making the wifi channel away from zigbee channel would help, maybe I should change the wifi channel to 11 ?
Keep wifi at 6 or below and your zigbee on 25
I had more issues on zigbee channel 20 and 25
only keeping it on 18 lets me pair all my zigbee devices.
If that's true (I have no idea) then it could help to set your Wi-Fi channel to 1 (temporarily if you prefer), do a shut-down/pull power/wait 30s/restart and then try to pair.
ok that I can try next time I have the same pairing issue. (maybe if I need another one of those contact sensors)
But the fact that C8 has this issue is disturbing. And it would be better if Hubitat crew could have a look at this. Because this is an issue specific to C8 and my hope was to have a better performing hub when migrating to C8.
It would really be good if the Hubitat developers could have a look at pairing phase of C8 and compare it with C3/C5
They don't even need the problematic device to find the difference between their hubs.
I have an older version of this device, so i ordered a new one to test with a C8
So you're going to Turkey?
Jealous... ![]()
wait if you have the older version, how does it perform on the C8 ?
Can you easily unpair and pair ?
Because originally I had the issue on the older version of the device (samsung smartthings smartsense version)
And now I have the same issue on the new version from Centralite.
So I have the issue on both old and new version.
Yes
interesting.
I wonder what version of the device you have.
I have 2 different versions as I wrote above. Both have the issue on C8. However on C3 and C5 there is no problem.
I have the above unit (leak sensor) and it worked fine on my C8 (that is until I let it sit in water for a week accidentally). Don't have any of the Centralite contact sensors.
well, these are not the uniฤts ฤฑ have issue with. both contact sensors I have are using Cr2450 battery
And I only have issues with contact sensors. Not leak sensors...
OP never clearly said so, but heโs probably trying to use a centralite 3321-S, aka 2015 ST multipurpose sensor.
don't have one of those, didn't even know centralite made a multi, i only have the 2017 model
