New Dimmer not showing in scenes or groups

I just replaced a problematic first-generation Ge/Jasco dimmer with a newer version of the same dimmer. The dimmer inclusion came in as "device". I changed to "generic z-wave dimmer". When activated from the device list, it works correctly.

If I create a new group or scene it shows up in the lists of device options. However, in an existing group or scene, it does NOT show up as a selectable device.

Am I missing a setting or is something else preventing the device from showing in an existing scene or group?

There appears to be a workaround fix to this issue that worked for me. It was first posted here:

Several times now I have added a new device and found that the new device did not appear as a device selection in an existing scene or rule or app. In other words, I added a smart plug and then wanted to add its state to a particular scene. The smart plug device works fine "manually" but going to the scene and selecting the devices involved in the scene, the new smart plug does not appear in that list. First, reboot the hub. Then, go to the scene or group that's missing the new device, and just hit "Done" without changing anything. Go back into that scene or group, and see if the new device is now listed there.
