Does anybody have one of these? I’m thinking of getting a video doorbell and I’m considering this one. It has most of the features I want, it’s wired and has no monthly fees, and I like the look of it. The one thing it doesn’t do (yet) is it’s not compatible with Google Home. I have 2 Google hub displays and I want to be able to view the camera on those.
Their FAQs say that feature should be available soon, but I don’t want to order one until I know that it will work. Unfortunately, the only way I have found to contact them requires a purchased product serial number, so I can’t ask them if they have a timeframe when they expect it to work with Google, or if they will even guarantee that it will eventually work.
Does anyone have one of these, and if so, what is your opinion of it? Have you gotten any indication when they expect it to work with Google devices? Does it work with Hubitat?
Update: I sent a message to their Twitter support, and their response was not what I was hoping for. Their FAQ states "The Smart Video Doorbell is not yet compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, although our goal is to make it compatible in the future.", which would suggest they are working on compatibility, but the response I got from their support states "we are considering these capabilities" which does not suggest that they are currently working on this feature.
So, for the foreseeable future, it looks like the netatmo is out for me. Which is a shame, since it looks like a good product. No monthly fee, wired connection which uses existing door chime, can upload video to your own FTP server.
The main 3 features I'm looking for:
No monthly fee.
Wired connection to the existing doorbell chime.
Ability to view camera on Google devices.
The best alternative I recall coming across is the Eufy, which does meet these 3 requirements. But although it uses a wired connection, it requires bypassing the existing doorbell chime, which I'm not too happy with. It is about half of the price of the Netatmo (and currently $20 off at $139), and I do like it's look too (although I prefer the look of the Netatmo). I think it only stores video on a 4GB SD card.
The other option I found was the Arlo, which meets all requirements, except it does require a subscription for cloud video storage and some other features. It sounds like I can buy one of their hubs and that will allow local storage, but some features will not work at all without a subscription.
One thing I'm assuming, but haven't confirmed, is that the cameras can be accessed without it being 'activated' by motion or the doorbell. In the winter months, I would like to be able to bring up the live feed in the morning to see how much snow has fallen to determine if I need to get out of bed early to allow extra time to clean my car.
I found a new candidate, it looks like it might hit all of my requirements, but it looks like it’s sold out right now. I’m going to look into this further.
Hey @cosmo1 what did you end up going with? I have very similar thoughts to you! Although the most expensive, netatmo seems the best, and I like their other outdoor and indoor camera options. (plus, I've read some shady things about the parent company that owns the Lorex devices).
I haven’t gotten anything yet, although the Netatmo site seems to indicate that it does work now with Google home devices.
When I do get around to it (too many other expenses right now), I may go with the netatmo. It’s a bit pricier than the others, but I like the look and the features
