I purchased a kwikset 914 TRL ZB 3.0 (zigbee) but now realize that only the zwave version is on the compatible products list. I've tried many times to pair it with the HE hub but it never sees it. First question is whether others have successfully paired this zigbee deadbolt to the hub?
Things I've tried:
Factory reset (successfully) before all pairing attempts
Press the A button 4 times then started zigbee pairing, no luck
Start zigbee pairing then press the A button 4 times, no luck
Pressed the B button 9 times after a failed attempt, then tried again, no luck.
Performed the above with the lock on the door and just the inner module sitting next to the hub, no luck in either case.
Any advice on what I should do differently?
May have to buy a different lock if i cant get this to work.
This caught my attention because I intend to purchase and install the 914 Zigbee at the house we are purchasing. So, I do not yet have firsthand experience, but I know that others do. A quick search yields the following users (sending out the beacon!)
I have a Kwikset 914 zigbee lock, it's the conversion kit that only sits on the inside of the door over deadbolt, and I really can't remember having any issues getting it to pair. The A and B button procedures sound familiar but it has been so long I can't really remember what I did, I am sure however I just followed the OEM instructions, I have had it for about a year, I will say it has been much more reliable than my Z-wave locks.
I know that is not much help, but I I would think it should work. I would think the 914 would fall under the Kwickset smartcode Zigbee lock that is listed as compatible.
[edit]Just went and found the instructions for my lock and I am pretty sure I just did the press the A button 4 times. Did you try the QR code method. I have never used that but I think you can.
Same here, I only have the older zigbee models (although I'm replacing all of them with the zwave 700 homeconnect 620 now). The old model pairs immediately - all I would do on those is a reset on it, then the pairing button combination.
I have three of these. Paired via factory instructions without difficulty. I did place the body near the hub to pair. My only issue was one didn't want to lock. Called Kwikset and they suggested new Rayovac batteries. That took care of it. The enclosed batteries were past their shelf life. It was an eBay purchase so could have been in a warehouse for a very long time.
Do you have the new zigbee 3.0 version, or the old 1.2 version? I wouldn't think the new model has been around long enough to have batteries old enough to be expired....
No idea on version. I did keep one box. It says Zigbee and Home Connect. If it were 3.0 my guess is that it would say so. Best I can tell there is no way to determine which device is which version from the Hubitat info. I do have two slightly different versions, two have hex screws and one has phillips to secure the housing.
I'd suggest Kwikset support. When I was dealing with a low battery that I thought was a lock problem the person I spoke with seemed very knowledgeable. Not just following a script. As I recall the wait time was very short. 866-863-6584
First, thanks for all the comments and recommendations.
I spoke to Kwikset tech support and found out that indeed the Zigbee version is NOT on the Hubitat compatibility list for a reason. There are a number of reports similar to mine where it can't be paired. They recommended I return it and go with the Z-Wave version. I'm trying exactly that and will let this thread know how that goes.
If you were going to go with the Z-Wave version I would strongly suggest going with the home connect 620. The latest version is Z-Wave 700, and the motor is much quieter than the old 9xx model. I got mine at gokeyless.com (I am in no way affiliated with them, that's just where I found them in stock first).
Or if you want some used nickel colored 914s I probably have some sitting in a box somewhere that I haven't got around to selling yet. I have z-wave, Z-Wave plus, and original zigbee com cards for those.
For the record the older original zigbee 9xx locks work perfectly with hubitat. If the new zigbee 3.0 ones don't work properly, that is something new.
Thanks for your feedback. As @JasonJoel mentioned, this is news to us as well. Please send me a PM with your hub's details so we can further look into this issue. Even if the lock is Zigbee 3.0, it should still work like its predecessor running Zigbee 1.2.
I also got a 914 convert kit (the one without a keypad) and it paired with Hubitat just fine but when I try to add it to the dashboard it is not showing up as a device that I can pick. I can lock and unlock it via the device details but nowhere else.
BTW, I tested it as both Generick Zigbee device (worked fine, updated everytime I locked/unlocked manually and via hub command) and as a Generic Zigbee Device (no keypad) and the latter did not work (it would never change the status to lock).
I spent a few hours repeating the steps for Z-Wave and never could get the 914 to pair. I decided to select the kwikset 10 button deadbolt instead of the kwikset 912/914/916. I did another factory reset and used Zigbee pairing by pushing A key 4 times. It paired up first time.
