Need a Z-Wave Ghostbuster

I had a Z-Combo Smoke/CO detector that was periodically throwing error codes, hardware malfunction. I purchased an SMCO410 detector to replace it. I paired the new detector and told it to take the place of the old one which it did. I then excluded the old Z-Combo. That removed it from the device list as I no longer see it. However, it appears to have left a ghost behind

In the Settings/Z-Wave Details, I still see the old Z-Combo.

0x0011 (17) PER: 0, RTT Avg: nullms, LWR RSSI: N/A Notification Sensor S2_Authenticated 0
Neighbors: 9, Route Changes: N/A First Alert (BRK Brands Inc)

I need a Ghostbuster to help me get rid of this ghost.

What steps have you tried so far? The "Remove" button in for that entry in the Z-Wave Details table should do what you want, but I'm assuming you're asking because it's not that easy. If not, try that -- or try a Refresh, reload the page in 10, 20, 30, or some seconds later, and see if appears then. If not, you can try once more or wait a day or so and see if it appears on its own.

Shutting down the hub, then removing power for 30+ seconds, and then powering it back up will fully restart the Z-Wave radio and can sometimes help with oddities, too. This isn't normally one of of them, but it can't hurt if done correctly.

It also looks like you're on Z-Wave JS, which normally behaves better with this kind of thing than "legacy" Z-Wave. The first set of tricks above is the typical advice for legacy, but it might work on Z-Wave JS, too. Some people resort to secondary controllers, but they are not officially supported and may cause problems if not used carefully.

Since your device is just a sensor, any lingering "ghost" is unlikely to cause problems (not like anything would try to use it as a repeater) -- though I do understand the desire to get rid of it.

I'm assuming you mean the Z-Wave Exclude button. I've tried that. I've tried setting it to exclude mode as per the manual. Nothing I am doing is getting rid of this ghost, even the shutdown, power-off, and then restart sequence. It just does not want to go away.

No, "Remove," in the "Actions" column of the Z-Wave Details table.

AS a "last resort" you can always purchase a Z-wave USB dongle. I have an older 600 series dongle, but the current version is 800.

In order to remove ghosts, the dongle has to be used in conjunction with the free Simplicity Studio software from Silicon Labs. Do not let the name mislead you, it is not really simple, but it works. If you have multiple ghosts to remove, or if you have a really stubborn ghost, it is a lifesaver.

There is no "Remove." There is only "Refresh" and "Discover."

I addressed this all in my post. If the Remove button is not there:

There is also another tip if this does not help. And if nothing else:

I tried a Z-Wave Repair. Results are:
Stage: Finished
Skipped: 11 12 07
Completed: 08

No change. I still see "Discover" and not "Remove".

What is the other tip?

Please re-read my post; neither I nor anyone above suggested a Z-Wave Repair as a possible solution.

Okay. Shut down, wait, boot up--no change. Still see "Discover" and not "Remove"

I think at this stage, I will just ignore it. If I could find an alternative to the three Z-Wave devices I have, I would just eliminate Z-Wave altogether. The three area Utilitech siren, Utilitech Glass Break Sensor, and the First Alert Smoke/CO detector.

FWIW, that was the second idea. The first suggestion was a refresh (not repair) on that node. You would normally see a button for this, too.

But if it's not causing problems, and again as a non-repeater it is unlikely to, leaving a functional Z-Wave network alone is often the best bet.

I tried one last thing. I switched to Legacy Z-Wave and the "Remove" button showed up. The Z-Wave Ghost is now busted!
