Need a good IR remote

I'm tired of fighting with the stupid Harmony Hub. I'll be happy if I never have to configure another Logitech device in my lifetime.

So... any recommendations for a decent alternative to that POS? I need to control my Roku TV and an old Yamaha RX-V2600 receiver through Hubitat with webcore and a SharpTools dashboard.

Are any IR blasters natively supported in Hubitat?

Thanks for any help.

Can't answer your question, but what is your issue with the Harmony Hub? I have 2 of them and one was recently purchased from eBay. No issues with them, just have to make sure you enable XMPP in the phone app.

"Harmony Setup"/"Add/Edit Devices & Activities"/"Remote & Hub"/"Enable XMPP"

If you can statically assign the hub's IP in your router, it should have no issues. Going on 3 years with one hub at home, and 2 months with the other at my church.

I've had nothing but issues with the Harmony hub app and software for 5 years. Random freezes, their whole ridiculous approach to "activities" that must include on/off, the fact that everything has to make a round trip through their web portal (which has it's own issues), etc. I've been using Logitech for decades, and they still have the crappiest software around, for otherwise good hardware.

Look at the rating of just 2.1 with 10,000 reviews for the app on the Play store. Yep.

It won't get you all the way to what you want but you can control your Roku without using IR. There is a community app for the Roku that I haven't used. Instead, I use a dashboard that sends Http Requests based on this:

I too have a Harmony but don't have the issues you do. I use my Roku dashboard when the Harmony remote is misplaced or I already have my phone in my hand.

???

This is incorrect.

Honestly, nothing compares to the harmony remotes out there. And every alternative that I have researched has somebody griping about issues with it. Even the broadlink ir blasters (which technically has no remote).

FWIW, I have 5 of these remotes and love them. And to be fair to Logitech, they are trying to solve a problem that we may think is easy but is actually very hard with a remote. The remote has to be able to track state as it has no access to poll device state over IR. Its not easy.

The software is crap yes. But once you understand how its laid out it's usable and I don't really have to use it often. I do all my programming on my windows destkop and don't use the apps on my ios devices unless I need to sync it. The desktop app is so much easier to use.

Communication is all local. Except when you program it. That goes throught their cloud to pull down the configuration. But I don't mind that because its mainly the database with all the IR codes that is needed.

Activities is a concept you have to get your head around. But once you do there are a lot of settings you may need to tweak to get things working. Its nice that you can switch to another activity and the remote adjusts so it can control all those devices how you want. When set up right its really good.

Your setup actually sounds pretty simple if its just a roku and a Reciever. I've had 5 devices at one point on my setup and all controlled with a single remote.

I would recommend fighting it out. List out the main issue you are having and others can help you get it working how you want.

they have to "check in" to server every once in awhile. how else would they send all of your new personal info to them? They have access to all your stuff. just like Google etc. no thanks. Harmony would be excellent if their software wasnt so poorly designed and cloud dependant, but that is not reality.

One of mine has been firewalled off for ~2.5 years. Add the other for about 6 months.

So maybe not?

The only time it connects to the cloud is for updates. Mine hasn't been on the net for a couple of years except if I'm looking for new firmware. Syncs between my hub and remote are direct (I have an elite)

I stand corrected sir. The one I had would hose out after a while when firewalled.
